Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton/Equipment for Matemateca digitalization/report

Hello R.T.Argenton,

Thank you for submitting your report! It was unfortunate to learn about the delays and obstacles to complete this project within the grant period, but we appreciate your patience and determination to work through these issues. Before we accept this grant report as it is, we would encourage you to continue updating on your progress and experience of navigating uploads onto Commons. Since it seems like this project has been ongoing, it would be fascinating to have you continue your progress as you see fit, especially after working up to this point. Would you expect a new timeline to complete this with a more definitive end date? You mention that it not would be possible to upload 100 VI; what would your new metrics be, knowing the difficulties of contributing content at this rate? Let us know what your plans are, moving forward.

Lastly, have you been able to share this equipment among your community? If so, can you share a link? Looking forward to your reply! Cheers, Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 22:06, 6 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Morgan, nice to meet you,
Sorry the delay, Meta didn't send me an email notifying, and this login is Meta exclusive (I have four different accounts, as they are from before the unification)
I will do a more rich and profound report by the end of the work, as for me a detailed report is a important learning tool to the Movement, even when faults occurs.
I'm expecting to finish all uploads by the end of this month, as the idea is to start the planning process of a new museum in April 24.
After uploading, we have the community evaluating process, so one or two months more, 2 months behind the schedule predicted. However this is also a prediction, as we didn't started uploading >10min longer videos, one of them, 55 min, took 2 days and crashed by the end of upload... so we have a uncertainty factor.
About VI, 50 is a safe number, it's 2/3 of the photographed pieces.
Share like share via social media like "hey guys we have a equipment available" or some one using the equipment?
  • For the first: Wikimedia Community User Group Brasil equipments logbook I create this page as requested, and it's under the umbrella of WCUGBR, they even used to other equipments and, they have their system to spread the word between them, I don't have access.
  • For the second: No, I was heavily using the equipment until some short time ago, and I'll use it to do some videos related to Matemateca in the next week to be include in a Wikibooks, and the week after in the Museum of Game and Education. As we expected, it was difficult to borrow the equipment for another project during this one, as it was a daily used and I don't know if WCUGBR received another proposals.
Thanks for the feedback, and for such nice and kind words, see you soon.

Hello, R.T.Argenton! Thanks for taking the time to respond, and I'm glad you caught this notification. I'll also be sure to follow-up with an email once I publish this :). Thanks also for sharing the equipment logbook, and for the in-depth update, which seems promising and challenging at the same time. We are happy to accept this report as is, but welcome you to continue reporting and updating us as more results come through. I see that you have reached the eligibility stage on your Project Grant submission, which might serve as an interesting follow-up for this, if funded. Best of luck on your future work, and thanks once more for supporting the movement! Best, Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 19:44, 13 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hello Morgan Jue (WMF). Sorry for jumping in. I think it is worth noticing that along with images of the museum collection we have been able to convince the museum director to upload educational resources associated to the images. For instance, on the category on the clumsy wagon we have uploaded PDFs and SVGs with explanations in Portuguese on the mathematical properties behind the object. Almost all objects we have uploaded come with this kind of explanations, that was produced by the museum. To some extent, we have been able to provide enough resources for schools, universities and other cultural institutions to recreate the museum (I have called this a "museum for download"). Another important feature in our ongoing GLAM initiatives is that they have been bringing media attention, so we have had three or four new pieces on our work in important Brazilian media outlets, which has of course been an opportunity for increasing the realm of potential partners, including --and this exciting-- one of the largest museums in Brazil, Museu Paulista. Also, as a detail, we have been trying some GLAM tools for uploading images, such as pattypan and GLAMpipe (beta). Thanks for looking at this. --Joalpe (talk) 23:13, 13 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
