Hello Chuks Zilo, thank you for submitting this Rapid Grant proposal. It is great to see that you are organizing a series of edit-a-thons to improve content on Nigerian higher educational institutions on Wikidata. We have reviewed your proposal and have the following questions and comments.

  • In terms of outreach, how are you going to ensure that community members who are not in your Facebook friends list will also be aware of this event? Would you please use other communication channels as well to reach out to the community members?
  • In terms of the budget, please fix the product of line #1 and adjust your budget if needed.

Thank you again for your contribution to the Wikimedia Movement. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 14:26, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Response to your additional questions edit

Dear DSaroyan (WMF) Here are my answers to your further questions:

  • I am not a member of the Igbo Wikimedians Users Group and I am not making this application on behalf of the User Group
  • many of the experienced editors that will participate in this project are not members of the Igbo Wikimedians User Group. However some of the experienced members of the User Group will also participate. The idea is to bring people from different background to share experience in the project. Don't forget that this project is about Nigerian universities and polytechnics. Nigeria is large and I need people from different backgrounds to extract as much information as possible from universities and polytechnics located in different parts of the country.
  • Some participants in the project will be members of the Igbo Wikimedians User Group but most of the participants will not be members of that group. I am going to involve students in some of these universities, my friends, people we worship together in the same church etc. it is because I want to use students that I have proposed that the project take place within the period that many universities and polytechnics will be on vacation.

Ineligible due to pandemic-related restrictions edit

Hello Chuks Zilo, I have marked the proposal as ineligible as we cannot fund the proposal as described due to funding restrictions on in-person events and travel related to the COVID-19 pandemic. We attempted to contact you over e-mail requesting possible changes to the proposal. If you would like to reapply for funding, you may revise your proposal to modify your goals and activities to reflect activities that can be conducted online or in a remote manner. Otherwise, you may wait to reapply until the funding restrictions for in-person events have been modified. While there is no definitive timeline for these changes, we would announce grant funding policy changes both on our grant pages on Meta as well as on the wikimedia-l mailing list. Please let me know if you have any questions. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 09:22, 24 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello Chuks Zilo, thanks for resubmitting this Rapid Grant request. I have reviewed the changes you made to the proposal page and have some questions:

  • You plan to cover internet cafe costs for the participants who do not own computers. Is this safe in terms of the COVID-19 situation in Nigeria? Are the workspaces you plan to rent isolated from other people? Have you considered renting laptops instead of renting workspaces at an internet cafe?
  • Could you please explain why you increased the budget and quantity for the merchandise?
  • What are miscellaneous expenses for, please provide more information.
  • How will you deliver food and beverages to people’s houses?
  • In the proposal you have mentioned that the targeted number of created and improved articles is 50. Does this number refer to the Wikidata items created and improved?

Looking forward to your response! Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 14:14, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello DSaroyan (WMF), thanks for this information. These are my answers;

  • A number of cyber cafes in Nigeria since the Covid-19 pandemic, has redesigned their work stations to comply by government guideline on social distances in such places. The work stations are now separated from each other and users have to comply by certain rules including wearing of face shield, face mask, washing of hand and use of sanitizers.
  • I increased the quantity of merchandise because i thought it will only be fair to give every participant 1 merchandise unlike my earlier proposal where i intended to give only 1 participant for every edit-a-thon. The 1 person was intended to be the highest contributor.
  • The miscellaneous is meant for transport allowance for participants going to the cyber cafe and any other possible increase in cost in the execution of the project.
  • The budget of food and drinks is for the 4 participants going to the cyber cafe for the 4 events. the food and drinks will be provided by the cyber cafe.
  • Yes, the number refers to the Wikidata items created and improved.
