Hello @Anurikaonu:, thank you for your work on the grant application for Nigerian Female Choreographers, Dancers and Musicians. Can you update the proposal with the on-wiki link where you shared the grant application with the community? Regards RSharma (WMF) (talk) 08:17, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dear RSharma (WMF), I did not share the application in any on-wiki link. Like I said in the application, I intend to share information about the application in different whatsapp groups that I belong and in other social media platforms. This will be done when the application is approved so that I can confirm to recipients when the project will take place.. Regards--Anurikaonu (talk) 20:58, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Anurikaonu:, thanks for the follow up. I would request you to share the grant proposal with the wider community (preferrably on the mailing list or some on-wiki page) for their review as per our current guidelines. Once you notify the community, please the update the application with the link and let us know so we can proceed with your grant. Regards RSharma (WMF) (talk) 14:36, 3 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello RSharma (WMF) I sent the link of this project to the wikidata mailing list about 40 minutes ago. however I do not know how to get the link of the mailing list. I therefore also added the link at the wikidata project chat. the link to the chat is https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Project_chat . I have also put the link of the chart to the project page. --Anurikaonu (talk) 18:51, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Food and drink for online events edit

Hello Anurikaonu, I noticed that you are planning a series of online events yet you're planning for food and drink, laptops and data. How do you propose to spend funds for these items if the events are held online? Do you really deliver food and drink to people's homes?--Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 11:54, 8 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello Anurikaonu, this is Chris Schilling. I'm a program officer managing the Rapid Grants program. I have the same question as Vojtěch Dostál, and would like some additional clarity on the following details:
  • What is the length of the proposed individual edit-a-thons, and what meals will the food budget support?
  • How will the food be provided to participants? Will participants be ordering their own meals, and be reimbursed?
  • 200 USD is too large of prize/souvenir budget for nine participants-- and we can't sustainably support this approach to community engagement and recruiting that rely on larger gifts to all event participants. We would be willing to support a souvenir budget of $90 USD for an event of this size, so please revise this budget line.
  • It would also be helpful to understand how you arrived at a 200 USD budget initially. Is there a way to share what services (e.g. through a website or an image of service costs) you were planning to use to design and purchase these souvenirs? I don't have a lot of clarity around the costs of custom-designed goods like merchandise in Nigeria, and I am wanting to understand better what the costs of these kinds of goods/services are for you.
Please let me know if you need any clarity around these questions. With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 19:25, 9 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello Vojtěch Dostál I JethroBT (WMF). Thanks for your questions which will obviously help me in developing my concept of a project like this. On the issue of food and drink, what I intend to do and what have actually happened here before is that I will retain a cafeteria that will deliver food and drinks to participants in there different locations. I live in Abuja Nigeria and the participants that I expect will participate in this programme are all living in Abuja. Even if a few outside Abuja participate, it will still be the same thing. Most times more people participates than expected. I will continually be in touch with all the participants. So monies are not delivered to participants. The foods that we most likely deliver are local foods like fofo and soup, abacha with ugba etc. However, participants will have the option to chose what they want. The programme will last for 3 months i.e from 27th March to 27th June 2021. within this period, there will be 5 events. it is on the days of these events that the food will be delivered. Our experience is that in most cases, participants can still carry out edits outside those specific days but the edits on those days will be compulsory and a lot more. On the Issue of souvenirs, I have accepted your direction and reduced the amount to $90. However to better understand my concept, what I really plan to do is to contract a branding outfit and they will buy good qualities of these souvenirs, brand it and deliver to the participants. Most times when these banded items are very good, people cherish it and some will display it in their palours or offices. From what you said, I now understand that souvenirs are not supposed to be for every participants. so I will then probably give it maybe to the best participants. Thanks again for your guidance.--Anurikaonu (talk) 20:35, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Anurikaonu: Thanks for your response here. I now have a better understanding of the logistics and arrangements you have planned for these events. It's also helpful to understand this context around participation as well as the possible benefits of having branded prizes, so thank you for taking the time explain these details. It's interesting to hear that people may display these items in a public way. It also sounds to me that the impact of receiving a souvenir for participants can have a The approach of giving out just a few souvenirs is one approach organizers have used for programs. Other organizers have provided souvenirs for all participants, so long as they are somewhat modest in monetary value (typically about 5 USD or less), such as branded stickers, pins, or other small items. Yet others have provided prizes to random participants using a raffle or lottery system. The specific approach you want to use is up to your discretion, and what you think will work well in your community. My own recommendation is that if you want to provide souvenirs and if the event is not intended to be competitive or a contest of some kind, giving out smaller souvenirs is a good practice.
