Grants talk:Project/Rapid/AGRIPO/Wiki-agripo 7.0 : edit-a-thons on villages in the East Cameroon

Comments from WMF edit

Hello Elns, thanks for submitting this Rapid Grant request. We are excited that you are planning to run another series of the Wiki-agripo events. I have reviewed your proposal and have a few questions and requests:

  • In the budget, you included internet connection costs for four months. Per the Rapid Grants Guidelines, we cannot support expenses for wired or wireless data plans that extend beyond the grant period. So please either reduce the number of months, or extend the grant duration.
  • We now require all grantees to announce their projects and receive the Wikimedia community feedback in advance. Could you please announce this project and grant on the relevant community pages on the target wiki(s)? Community notification may be most appropriate on a village pump, talk page, or mailing list. Please paste a link into the proposal page to where the relevant communities have been notified of this proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.
  • What is the purpose of travel expenses? If you are going to travel to different communities / locations of Cameroon, would you also consider taking photos of these places and uploading them to Wikimedia Commons? Would you add a relevant target on the number of images too?

Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 15:10, 1 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Feedback on comments from WMF edit

Dear DSaroyan (WMF), Sorry for my late response. I do not have manage my emails all the time. I just read your message and I would like to give feedback if possible.

  • In the budget, we included internet connection costs for four months because for each event we have preparation activities which take many times. We work with new contributors who usually participate for the first time. It is not easy for us to manage a project in only one or 2 months. It is why our project has more time of preparation and implementation to mobilise, to convince, to train and at the end to organise edit-a-thons. In the others hands, we have a series of edithathons during many months not just few days. When we succeed to convince a contributor, we continue to work with them before and after each edit-a-thons
  • As mention in the call of proposal, We announce the project in this wikipedia 20 Events Our contributors receive an alert also. But as you mention, you do not request comments of community on this 20 years celebration. It is why the project do not have comment. However, we could ask community to give feedback if needed.
  • What is the purpose of travel expenses? Our organization has the distinction of being located in rural areas without internet. Our subjects are also those of rural issues (villages, plants). To carry out our projects, people are forced to travel to the city and connect. Our commitment is to reduce the digital gap not only between North and South but also between urban areas and rural areas, which unfortunately because of the lack of digital and also electic infrastructure need to move to participe in any modern initiative. And of course; we could also add the result to upload photos of villages in this project.
  • Would you add a relevant target on the number of images too? we could have to produce more than 20 images on wikipedia activities on rural areas in Cameroon.

I hope that you could take time to read my feedback and do not close my application. Best regards, --Elns (talk) 17:11, 26 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
