Overall Positive Feedback edit

Commendations to the team putting this project plan together! This proposal asks a very important question that each community needs to answer – what is the baseline understanding of where the community stands and what areas does it want to invest in?. It is clear how this proposal works towards finding an answer. A better understanding of the skills gaps and strengths of our communities is a current need within the movement ecosystem, and the findings from this project can be valuable insight for communities within and outside the Arabic language community.

Also, the research plan appears feasible in the timeframe and scope outlined. It is good to see the details the project team share in the budget, and the desire to translate research materials into local languages to encourage accessibility. YPam (WMF) (talk) 11:50, 31 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Feedback For Improvement edit

There seems to be a uniform method (not methodology) to assess different projects. This might be a concern if the suitable changes are not made while designing the survey, questionnaire and setting up of the interviews.

The project team state that they will focus on the Wikipedia and Wikisource communities. Does this mean the research will focus on on-wiki technical skills gaps? In addition, it is stated that the research will focus on researching skills gaps, yet the examples aren’t related to skills. Thus it is unclear whether the research plans  to uncover skills gaps, or general problems that contributors are facing when editing Wikipedia/Wikisource. Clarification is required here. Hello @YPam (WMF):, Thank you for the thoughtful and helpful feedback.
We have directly edited the grant request based on your feedback. We have made the following changes, according to the two questions that you have posed:
  1. We have added a “step 2” in the activities plan to collect data that will help us design unique surveys for Wikipedia and Wikisource, in case there is a need for that. We hope that addresses the concern about a uniform method.
  2. We have edited the proposed “challenges” and added two proposed “opportunities” to better explain the skill gaps that we aim to address in those Wikimedia projects, and how we intend to tackle them.
Kindly check the changes here and here and here. Let us know what you think. NANöR (talk) 18:39, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Update edit

Hello, @YPam (WMF):, happy new year

In October 2022, we started the data collection phase. In our work plan, we set the study approach and started the planning sessions. We were unable to stick to the original schedule and continue the study within the given time frame because of the sad circumstances the grantees were dealing with. So, we request that the deadline be extended until October 2023.

We reevaluated the working hours devoted to the data collection phase after reading through the data mentioned in the grant proposal, the village pumps and the study assistants. This will guide us to a provisional analysis and subsequent survey for the skills needed and lacking in the Arabic community. Instead of the recommended 120 hours, we set the working hours at 270, which results in an increase of 60% in the number of working hours devoted to data analysis, from 90 to 144 hours.
