Midpoint Report accepted edit

Dear DannyS712

Thank you for submitting this Midpoint Report and for the good progress you are making in creating a global watchlist extension that will provide a basic interface to view one's watchlists on multiple wikis at once. I am approving the report now with the following comments:

  • We congratulate you first for creating a functional extension and hosting it on Gerrit. It was great to see you engaging community members in developing the extension, including identifying an additional person to assist you with the code review process.
  • We appreciate your patience with the security and performance review processes. We remain optimistic that you will complete these steps and that this will advance the deployment process, which we are happy to learn that you have begun. It was also great to see you working around and being able to move past the challenges you may have encountered, such as with the issue of getting Wikibase to run locally on your MediaWiki installation.
  • You mentioned in your report that you have not been assigned an advisor. Please see the email from Chris Schilling on September 18, 2020 assigning Niharika Kohli as your primary advisor and Leon Ziemba as your secondary advisor. They are available to provide limited input about your project, and I will follow up with you by email to make sure you are connected.
  • We are also pleased to learn that the utilization of funds requested is on track and that you do not anticipate any changes for the project’s remainder.

Overall, we commend you for the progress you have made and look forward to seeing what you do in the next half of the project.

@Mjohnson (WMF) Yes, I have an advisor now, but I didn't at the time of the midpoint - sorry for the confusion DannyS712 (talk) 17:59, 10 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Feedback edit

Hi Danny, I was asked to provide feedback on the midpoint report. Everything seems on track so far. I am hoping the security approval can come through soon and I will follow up on it internally after the holiday break. I have a couple of minor comments.

  • It would be nice to flesh out the extension page to include more information about the functionality. A couple screenshots would help too. If there is a place where one can see the extension in action, we could try to get some feedback from the WMF Design team, if desired.
  • Is there a list of what's being instrumented in the extension? It will be great to capture some metrics about usage.

Besides that, great work so far. I've been really impressed by your progress and how much you've accomplished without much help. -- NKohli (WMF) (talk) 18:29, 22 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@NKohli (WMF) sure, will do - you can see the extension in use at https://meta.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Special:GlobalWatchlist, and I've filed phab:T270748 to remember to update the documentation DannyS712 (talk) 00:46, 23 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
