Comments from I JethroBT (WMF) edit

@Artemev Nikolay, Nataev, and Jamshid Nurkulov: Hello Wikimedians of the Uzbek Language User group members, and thanks for your proposal supporting the Wiki Loves Earth in 2023 in Uzbekistan. Here are my questions and comments about the proposal:

  • How did you determine the need for five (5) jurors for this competition? If your goal is for 2000 photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, does this mean that each juror will review about 400 submissions?
  • Thanks for noting the need for a tech consultant that will support some of the jury's work. What specific tools or support will they be providing for the jury's benefit?
  • What activities will you be doing to integrate image submission into the Wikipedia and Wikivoyage articles?
  • While the number of expected participants is high, the prize pool for this competition is too high (8,500,000.00 UZS / ~710 USD) for an individual campaign supported through Rapid Funds. Please reduce the prize pool to 6,500,000.00 UZS (about 570 USD).

  • @I JethroBT (WMF): Hi, Chris! We decided on the number of jurors based on the experience of Wiki Loves Earth in Kazakhstan. They had three jurors who struggled to review all the submissions. We're planning to call on our active users through our Facebook (2,000 subscribers) and Telegram channels (877 subscribers) to integrate the images into Wikipedia articles in English, Russian, and Uzbek as well as into the English and Russian Wikivoyages. We could potentially organize a weeklong edit-a-thon calling our users to integrate the images into wiki projects. Well noted on the prize pool, we'll bump it down.
  • About the technical consultant: he will be in charge of the intermediate lists of finalists (long-list and short-list) uploaded from the Montage tool for publication, as well as the maintenance of lists of natural monuments on request.
  • Photo evaluation is done in several stages: first, all uploaded photographs are divided equally by the number of jury members, and everyone looks through them for exact non-compliance with the rules (watermarks or any other inscriptions on the image, also photos of people and cars, clearly taken outside the monument). Next, the remaining photographs are evaluated in three stages to form a long list, a short list and a list of winners. Thus, in addition to viewing an equal share of the photos, each member of the jury will have to evaluate them all at each evaluation stage.--Artemev Nikolay (talk) 07:09, 1 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Artemev Nikolay: Thanks for this information and context around the jurors and technical consultants. I'll be approving the proposal at 48,973,654.07 UZS, which is 2,000,0000 UZS less than what was proposed based on the above discussion. Thanks, and good luck with the WLE competition this year!
