Feedback from MEA regional funds review team edit

Hello Martin Hipangwa, thanks for submitting the grant proposal. We have reviewed the grant request and we have some comments regarding the proposal:

  • Thanks for following some of our recommendations mentioned here. In our message, we also requested that for any future grant application you had an experienced Wikimedian in the team. Could you please mention who is the experienced Wikimedian who will be supporting participants on Wikimedia Commons-related questions? Please add your response here.
  • Wikimedia Community User Group Namibia is not a recognized Wikimedia affiliate. However, on your Meta-Wiki page, social media, and/or Fluxx Grantee Portal you are presenting yourself as a recognized affiliate and this is misrepresentation that also goes against the trademark policy. We request that the group designation is updated and corrected on the relevant Meta-Wiki pages, Fluxx Grantee Portal, and other public-facing pages or materials. Even if the group title mentions that you are a "proposed" or "planned" affiliate you cannot use Wikimedia logos or marks to reference your own organization/group, you cannot refer to yourself as a "User Group" or "Wikimedia [country name]" if this hasn't been explicitly approved by the Affiliation Committee. We will review this grant request this time. However, we will not move forward with any future grant requests if the group designation is not clarified on relevant pages. You can reach out to the Affiliation Committee if further guidance is needed regarding the recognition and existence of Wikimedia movement affiliates. Please confirm that you read and acknowledged this request.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 06:02, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Dear Davit
I am spearheading Wiki Loves Women project and ShikohaTautiko has applied for Wiki Love Africa, and I am just assisting him with the process and subsequently the Assistant Project Coordinator. I hope that clarifies the difference between the two Martins, we are two different people.

1. For Wiki Loves Women project: Derrick Ndahiro|User:Ndahiro derrick will be assisting us throughout the project, with the guidance from WikiLovesWomen. For this Isla Haddow and Candy Kholiwe will provide mentorship to the project coordinators throughtout the project.
For Wiki Loves Earth photo contest, Kwera Faith|User:Kyakwera and Boris Bahire|User:Mrbobax will help us throughout the contest with training and guidance, since they have done similar trainings and contests before.
2.I have read and acknowledged this request. Before I started with organising the group events, I have requested from the legal team and submitted the logo that we currently use, which was approved by the legal team, screenshot to be communicated via mail. On the Fluxx, I always refer the group as Wikimedia Community User Group Namibia as in planning stages or not yet recognized.
On social media, sometimes maybe I omit the word, not yet recognized user group, which I apologies for that, it wasn't done intentionally or negligently. As of now I will update the group designation correct it on the relevant Meta-Wiki pages, Fluxx Grantee Portal, and other public-facing pages or materials.
Thanks for your continued support and further guidance through this strenuous process.
