Dear Wikipedian, please endorse this project because Bhutan really need to "establish a community" to move forward. Bhutan do not have core group to handle the Wikipedia project therefore, to established DZ.wikipedia core group this project is really important.

The establishment of a Wikimedia community for Dzongkha is crucial for preserving and promoting the language and culture of Bhutan. By creating a platform for Dzongkha-language content, we can:

Increase language accessibility: Make valuable information accessible to a wider audience, particularly those who may not be proficient in English. Promote cultural heritage: Preserve and share Bhutanese cultural heritage through articles, images, and other media. Foster community engagement: Create a space for Dzongkha speakers to connect, collaborate, and contribute to their language and culture. The proposed strategies, including community outreach, content creation, and knowledge sharing, are well-suited to achieving these goals. By engaging with underrepresented groups and addressing knowledge gaps, the community can ensure that the project is inclusive and benefits a diverse range of individuals.

The establishment of a Dzongkha community will contribute to the overall goals of the Wikimedia Movement by increasing linguistic diversity and promoting knowledge sharing. It will also align with the Movement's focus on supporting underrepresented languages and cultures.

An excellent initiative for us to support. Dzongkha is spoke by >640,000 people and is the official language of Bhutan. A handful of editors coming together to form a core group could really expand the coverage of the project. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 04:20, 10 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Your grant application has been approved

edit

Hello @Kheng Singye Dorji (KSD),

Congratulations! Your grant application has been approved in the amount of BTN 193,108 from 10 December 2024 to 31 March 2025. I have extended the end date of your project by one month so that you have a longer lead time for implementation as this is your first grant application and also adjusted your proposed budget to include a) 10% project contingency cost and b) 5% administration fee (i.e. bank fee, exchange rate losses).

Do note that post approval, the WMF Grants Administration team will be in touch and support with the following:

  • Signing of grant agreement between you and the Wikimedia Foundation;
  • Processing the grant payment to your designated account

Please look out for their email or message on Fluxx and also let them know about the exchange rate of BTN and USD.

Observations/ Recommendations / Notes

Below, you will find the consolidated feedback and observations from the review team (i.e. SA regional funds committee and programme officer)). Do take time to read and respond (i.e. provide more details) to the sharing(s) as necessary. Note: The review team may not have the same lived experience or understanding of the local context as you/your team. Hence, providing further insights will be very helpful in building on our collective wisdom and shared learnings.

  • We'll also recommend that you/your team keep tabs on the Wiki Conference India 2025 (grant application; meta page) and apply for a travel scholarship to attend the conference in-person when applications open.

  • Apart from Wikipedia, you can also read more about other wikiprojects. Perhaps they could spur further interest or be potentially a good fit with an emerging community.

We know even the best thought through plans may change

In the event that there are changes to your implementation schedule, you can reach out to request for a grant extension (i.e. extend end date). Similarly, if there is a surplus budget or changes to your planned budget, you can reach out to me about reallocation (via email and on this talkpage). There is also the option to have the unspent funds deducted against a future grant. More details here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Return_unused_funds_to_WMF

Additional resources which may be useful

We thank you for your participation in the application process and hope to continue to journey with you as you embark on this project. Let’s continue having regular conversations over the course of your project implementation. Please let me know if you require support in any way or would like to share your experiences with a wider community through the Let's Connect Programme or on South Asia Open Community Calls.

Thank you.

Regards,

Jacqueline on behalf of SA Regional Funds Committee JChen (WMF) (talk) 07:18, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
