Proposal Feedback and Invite for Response edit
Thank you for submitting your application. After the review process please find the feedback - comments and questions below for your response.
- Does the group have the capacity to handle the finances? Who will be in charge of that? Please share the structures and processes you have put in place to ensure healthy financial management.
- Yes; we have a joint bank account that has three signatories. User:Cmwaura, User:Ms Kabintie and User:Anitah Pezz are the signatories and will be accountable for the funds until we formerly register as an organization in the next financial year.
As per our project plan, we will also be engaging an external accountant to help with bookkeeping and financial records.
- We are curious to learn there are any clear strategies to grow and retain volunteer participants.
- If this is in reference to how we plan to retain our community members and newcomers; for the former our key goal is 2024 is to focus on community building that will key among other things revolve around frequent and consistent meetings and consultations; capacity and team building programs.
As for newcomers as we have done in the past, we will aim at being intentional of including newcomers in every campaign.
- In the proposal, there is no mention of AfroCine, but it exists in the budget. Please clarify and share more on your choice to include this campaign in your annual plan.
- That was an error; Afrocine campaign remains a very crucial campaign in our community as it’s the campaign that brought together members to grow our community. Additionally, arts & culture is a key topic of impact for our community in our efforts to shrink content gaps on Africa.
- In the proposal, Wiki Loves Africa is mentioned, but there is no budget for that. Please clarify and share the plan to resource the campaign especially since there is no separate budget line.
More clarity on Art+Feminism travel/accommodation (only in this project, but not in others, what is the plan?)
- This was a big oversight! Can you allow to add a budget line for it? Please not that it will increase our total amount.
- There is an overlap in timing between Wiki Loves Africa and Wiki for Human Rights. Is there the capacity to do both together?
- Yes, we have the capacity.
- Importantly, we are keen to learn on what measures you have put in place in the past and for this proposed future work that has validated for you that the interventions in place work - that they are yielding the results / outcomes desired and planned for.
- The question is a bit dense and not clear! Can this be discussed over a call?

General Support Funding Approved at 2,417,000.00 KES edit
Dear Wikimedia Kenya User Group,
Thank you for submitting your application seeking General Support Funds - Wikimedia Community Fund. The MEA Regional Committee and Staff have thoroughly reviewed, discussed and deliberated upon your application and made the decision to fund you at 2,417,000.00 KES for the grant period of 1st January 2024 to 31st December 2024.
Here are a few points to note;
- As the organization continues to grow, we would like to see you working on ;
- Creating a governance body such as an advisory board that can be supportive of the different needs of the group and could be from the ecosystem.
- A clear plan on how you hope to bring more people to the group, e.g through tactics such as regular office hours, a visible calendar of activities and how people can participate, etc.
We hope to continue having regular conversations over the course of your grant implementation. Do set up a regular schedule to connect with your MEA Programme Officer based on your needs.
The reporting requirements for the grant will shared in your grant agreement and on Fluxx. All reports are to be completed and submitted via Fluxx.
