  Strong support

This project is a welcome idea as it will Sensitize the youths on the issue of Climate Change. This project will help in educating the youths especially on the effects of climate change and how to mitigate it. Strongly support that the project should be carried out in the States especially in Anambra where there are environmental pollutions frequently caused by humans. Most of the erosion/floods faced in Anambra State are results of drainage lanes being blocked by plastics and no proper disposal of refuse. With this project, knowledge gap will be managed, when the youths are educated it will go a long way to educate the residents. Also having Climate Change topics in the local language will increase the accessibility.   Strong support Climatic condition, especially flooding, erosion and drought have been ravaging the traditional condition of the country (Nigeria) hence the need for this project to educate the populace (youth) on the way to a suitable climate condition. I hereby affirm to this project.

  •   Strong support With the rate at which climate change is affecting our ecosystem and also considering the fact that Africa as a continent still has a long way to go in the fight against ecological degradation, I believe this project will also contribute to enlightening and teaching individuals how they can help in improving our ecosystem.

I wish their proposal is accepted so they can continue their good work in creating more awareness on climate change which is generally lacking in my community.

Strong support: This proposal is a timely one as it would help increase the level of climate literacy in my community. It would also help improve contents on climate change in the English Wikipedia and Wikidata. Therefore, I strongly support it.

Hello @Celetex, thank you for your grant application, we are excited to learn about the opportunities that this project can provide to the Wikimedia communities in Nigeria and we are particularly curious about the approach to execution of this project.

After reviewing your grant our conclusion: We are recommending not to fund this project in its current state but we would like to support you in reworking the project to become a rapid grant.

General observations:

The project proposal is unclear about the goals of the project or what it hopes to achieve. The activities outlined feel very generic and seem quite ambitious for the scope outlined. There was generally a lack of depth around the outlined activities and the approach to executing them.

We didn’t get a clear sense of the capacity or ability (experience levels) of the team in executing this project and the project lacks a clear explanation of what is to happen in the timelines proposed in the application document.

The project proposal does not clearly describe which of these partners are already onboard and their level of involvement in the project.

Reservations:

We think the goals are quite ambitious because it seems to encompass quite a lot of activities (from sensitization of the youth to holding discussions with government entities, to training and editing) which might be difficult to complete within the time duration stipulated.

  • Consider prioritizing activities that tie directly to your goals
  • In prioritizing take into account community needs, risks that may arise because of your order of prioritization, etc.

Working with youth, in general, could be a herculean task -- especially in understanding their abilities to deliver on the project goals.

  • What ages are you looking at working with? How are you going to reach them?
  • It is not clear how the 3 trainings will be structured or the approach for it to meet the audience's needs

In the stated timeline for the project, there are no details of what goes into each task/activity and how many are happening in each state, and when. We are also concerned about the experience levels and capacity of your team in accomplishing the tasks set out in the project in its current state.

We are worried about the involvement of government institutions as it can take some time to negotiate with such institutions. Not clear how the partners will get involved or their roles in the project.

Certain budgetary allocations don’t come across as reasonable in the context of the project, for example, prizes for 20 people sound a bit much, and budgetary allocations for flyers look a bit off.

What we would like the grantee to improve:

  • We are hoping to see the grantee being clear on defining the project scope, its activities, and their connection to achieving the goals.
  • We would like for the grantee(s) to describe the training experience and capacity of the team and the roles each member will be playing on the project.
  • Elaborate on their partnerships for the project -- which of these partners have already been secured or at what stages are the partnership discussions.
    • Could also clarify the roles and responsibilities of these partners in achieving the main objectives.
  • How do you intend to collaborate with overlapping projects in your target state(s)?
  • Around learning we would want to see you develop your Learnings evaluation to answer some of your initial goals/questions around motivations or what information needs there are around climate change. Questions such as
    • Documentation that captures the top reasons why people who continued to edit were motivated and why the top reasons for those that didn't
