Feedback from WMF edit

Thank you for this report. We have some questions:

World Monuments Fund collaboration edit

We note there are only 8 items in the Commons category for the World Monuments Fund video donation. Could you provide more context on this collaboration? Pioneering it probably was, but in terms of value for investment, are they (and the improvements to the articles they're integrated in) all that was achieved with that partnership? Asaf Bartov (WMF Grants) talk 21:41, 9 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, I think it is a mistake to consider 8 videos as at all comparable to 8 photos. In this case, we uploaded about 45 minutes of professional-level documentary film footage, including some of virtually inaccessible locations. This was certainly a first of its kind for video, and of course a positive precedent of World Monuments Fund cooperation. It was also an interesting emergent benefit that this inspired the major expansion of some articles (e.g. w:National Art Schools (Cuba)), and that is something that could be studied further.--Pharos (talk) 06:17, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Finances edit

You mention an intern helped reporting and finance paperwork. We note that Wikimedia New York City/Finances only covers two years, up to 2010-2011. The general Reports page does not list a financial statement for any of the following years. This makes Wikimedia New York City non-compliant with its chapter agreement, but for the purposes of this grant report, we'd like to ask why the internship did not result in a more lasting improvement in the chapter's reporting, and what steps the chapter intends to take to address this. Asaf Bartov (WMF Grants) talk 21:41, 9 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

It is much less work to maintain record-keeping going forward, rather than having to backtrack through past history, as we have have certainly learned. Through the internship program, we were able to get an added hand in the catching-up process, and this has set us on a better path for the future. We have also kept up internal budgets on the most recent fiscal year, that we will be translating to meta soon.--Pharos (talk) 20:40, 17 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Underspend edit

When do you intend to apply for the re-allocation of these $900? If you don't have another grant proposal coming up, you will need to return these funds. In the meantime, you may keep them, until the WikiConference USA 2014 grant proposal gets decided on. If approved, we can deduct this underspend from that grant's disbursement. Asaf Bartov (WMF Grants) talk 21:41, 9 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

The anticipated timeline for a renewed proposal of this type would be early Spring 2014. Though, certainly we could account for the funds through a deduction from the other grant as well.--Pharos (talk) 20:40, 17 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
This will be deducted from the now-approved WikiConference USA 2014 grant. Asaf Bartov (WMF Grants) talk 20:03, 16 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
