Explanation of additional cost

edit

In total, we needed 170 t-shirts. We had no previous assumption that the Good Article Contest would be attended by such large amount of new Wikipedians. And this was the first of its kind in the country. Among those 170 t-shirts:

i) 70 t-shirts were distributed to the participants

ii) 90 t-shirts were distributed among the attendees at the Wikipedia 15 celebration event.

iii) 10 t-shirts were given to the volunteers

We assumed the participants of the Wikipedia 15 Celebration event as: half from the new Wikipedians who participated at the Good Article Contest and the rest half from the veteran Wikipedians. In order to sustain the motivation of those Wikipedians, we provided t-shirts at the event. Most of the new Wikipedians came to Dhaka (where the Wikipedia 15 event was held) from different regions of the country, bearing the cost of transportation by themselves.

One Wikipedian created 85 good articles. So to inspire him, we rewarded him, which cost some money we hadn't considered before. Especially, a significant portion of the additional cost were spent on parceling the prizes to Wikipedians (who didn't attended the event) in various regions of the country. We hadn't considered this amount during the planning of the project. As a whole, considering the unprecedented success of Good Article Contest and Good Article Day, we had to make some rearrangement in the programs. Tanweer (talk) 17:50, 24 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
