Grants talk:IdeaLab/Measure gender population statistics by project

Latest comment: 8 years ago by Mooeypoo in topic Scope

Hi @Pine:, thanks for posting this Idea! I think it's got heaps of potential and I wanted to check in and see if you are interested in developing it further (and if funding is needed, in turning this into a grant proposal -- the Inspire campaign is offering $250,000 in grants funding to gendergap-related projects). There's a couple of days left before the deadline on March 31, if you want to add more detail, rally people to help out, etc. --Skud (WMF) (talk) 00:46, 30 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi Skud (WMF), I don't see you on the WMF staff list, would you please tell me your name and/or role?
  • I'm a short-term contractor doing community organising around the Inspire Grants program -- helping make the idea-generation process run smoothly, encourage people to develop their ideas, etc. I've just updated my staff profile with a link to my ENWP user page and some other info. --Skud (WMF) (talk) 01:19, 30 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • This project is likely to be short-term so the amount of disruption to my schedule is unlikely to be worth any hourly pay that WMF offers to me. I think the best person to run this survey would be HaithamS (WMF) because of his experience with the Global South survey.
  • Thanks for your interest, --Pine 01:08, 30 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Scope edit

I think the idea is great, and I'd love to see more data on other Wikimedia projects. It seems to be a really big undertaking, though, when thinking about running surveys for all the projects. Also, what about different language Wikipedias, or different language projects? I just think that it's worth evaluating the scope and maybe starting out with a more defined set of projects to "tackle", especially since the goal seems to also involve analyzing the results, reaching some conclusions about their causes and then consider applying them to the English Wikipedia. Seems huge. Start with a couple of limited projects, maybe? Mooeypoo (talk) 23:57, 30 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
