Grants talk:IdeaLab/Inspire/Archives/2016/February

My wish-list

I'm particularly hoping to see ideas related to:

  1. non-English-language groups
  2. collaboration between specific (or all) language groups
  3. enabling the gender gap to be measured, analysed, and interpreted across language groups, to enable and/or implement actions to reduce it.

All three would require and produce cultural insights we need if Inspire is to make a difference, and have potential for strong alignment with grantmaking priorities for diversity and the global south. The Wikimedia movement is ideally placed not only to bring free knowledge to humanity, but to bring humanity together in a world that is falling apart.

I believe physical meetups require special justification in relation to impact, given the magnitude of our cultural and technological challenges. They're expensive in financial and carbon terms, and often, in my experience, lack social and future-temporal expansion beyond the immediate event and participants.

If training activities like editathons are to be proposed, I'd like technical details and teaching strategies to be built into the idea. To run a tight, impactful edithon requires teaching and design skills. Too often, in my view, editathons end up in nothing much at all.

I'd like brief explanations about internet connectivity in target regions, where relevant.

Already developed LPs?

Does an already (though recently) developed learning pattern qualify for the campaign, or it has to be completely new idea? I have in mind "Treasures or landmines: detecting uncategorized, language-specific uploads in Commons". Spiritia 06:43, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

@Spiritia: Your idea would absolutely be welcome during the campaign, and learning patterns seem like they could be a great resource, particularly when thinking through project planning. Ideas for Inspire, in fact, do not need to be new at all. I'll bet there are even old ideas buried in the back of discussion archives in various projects that never really got a lot of attention, but are still worth some consideration. @I JethroBT (WMF): Thanks. I added the idea, and will think of some new ones, as well. :) Spiritia 09:03, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
