report edit

@Pavan santhosh.s: hello and thanks for your report!

I am glad that the work is going well and am a little bit upset with technical problems of the Digital library website. Is there something that could help you with this issue? Maybe other wiki-members or IEG can help you? :) I have an idea about creating a mirror of the library or downloading it as a local copy but the site is quite huge and I personally wouldn't be able to do it, but we can look for some other enthusiasts of Wikimedia movement who can do it if this helps you rubin16 (talk) 11:47, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi rubin16, thank you for your encouraging words. It is very kind of you to offer help. While I very much appreciate it, I am not sure it is prudent to create an offline mirror. As you yourself have noted that the entire site is quite huge. But I'll be very happy and telugu wikipedians working with this project would be grateful if anyone can help us on this aspect. Thanks again!--Pavan santhosh.s (talk) 18:57, 15 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Report accepted, with feedback edit

Hi Pavan santhosh.s,

Thank you for this thoughtful midpoint report, and congratulations on all the progress so far - it is really exciting to see what you've sparked with this project in just a few months :) I'm accepting this report today, and here are a few additional thoughts.

  • I'm really glad that you switched to cataloguing on-wiki so that this project is more accessible to collaborators, that makes really good sense :)
  • It is great to see you focusing more of your time on community participation, as well. Your idea to use more volunteers to help speed things up makes great sense, and seems like a good investment in the sustainability of this project.
  • Like Rubin16, I'm sad to hear about the DLI website being down so often, and I can understand that can really demotivate the community to keep working on this project. It would be wonderful if Rubin or others can help with ideas for how to handle this issue, if there are any potential solutions, although I also understand that this may just be a fact of life that you'll have to keep working around.
  • Can you tell me if the 10 volunteers have been mostly creating catalogue entries so far? Is anyone else from the community using these entries to create Wikipedia articles or adding content to Wikisource, at this point? Or, do you think that will be the focus of future edit-a-thons instead?
  • Would you like us to send you some Wikipedia merchandise to give away to the volunteers who contribute to this project? This can sometimes be useful for community organizing. Here are some options we can offer, if you think they would be of interest.

Best wishes for the rest of this project! Please let me know if you'd like to discuss any of this further on a call, I am happy to support you where you need it. Cheers, Siko (WMF) (talk) 18:00, 15 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • it seems that site is really quite slow: even loading of the main page tooks about 52-60 sec testing from various locations: Europe, the USA... creating mirror would be quite a difficult and time-consuming task even if I would ignore that it's not good to copy other sites without permission. So, I hope that there any other ideas to cope with the problem rubin16 (talk) 19:23, 15 October 2014 (UTC)+Reply

Siko (WMF)! Thank you. I'm glad that my report has been accepted and project is going to continue funding. Coming to your queries part:

  • Among 10 volunteers of project nearly 4 of us are concentrating on Creating catalog entries and I'm coordinating this part of project and remaining people are working for developing essays in Telugu Wikipedia and adding books on Telugu Wikisource under coordination of User:Rajasekhar1961. This work division is just outline and sometimes I used to develop some article in wikipedia as per my specific interest on that subject and sometimes Mr.Rajasekhar may do some entries on catalog too. We are in regular touch with telephone calls.
  • Thank you for offering wikipedia merchandise items and sure this will help us on our remaining plans.

Regards --Pavan santhosh.s (talk) 08:05, 20 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Pavan santhosh.s, that's great to hear that the volunteers are both cataloging and developing articles and Wikisource entries as well. As for the merchandise, I will send you an email now with more information about how to place that order, so that we can send you these materials when you are ready for them. Best wishes, Siko (WMF) (talk) 18:06, 20 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
rubin16 Thanks a lot for your concern. If I come across with someone who can help me with an idea then I'll surely let you know, and ask your help in coming future. Thanks again. --Pavan santhosh.s (talk) 08:05, 20 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
