Goals edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes I met my goals. I am happy with how the project went. The micro grant arrived on time which enabled me to plan ahead. Participants turned out more than I expected and were happy to be part of the program. One of the participants said " Ngozi, please inform me when ever a program like this turns out". Another participant from Ehamufu college of Education, asked ' Is it possible the organize a program like this at my college?.

Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
Everything worked well. The grant fund was received on time. Thanks to Ayo & his team and the Wikimedia Nigeria UG. The early arrival of the fund made logistics for the program easy. It instilled confidence in the planning team. There was light, internet connectivity and the food was delicious.
  • What did not work so well? The program was limited by time (One day).We would have achieved more if the program was extended to at least two days. Contributing meaningfully to Wikipedia entails that the person must read the selected Wikipedia articles to identify gaps, search for published information to fill the gap, read the information, understand it and summarize it to add to Wikipedia. This takes time. To add one paragraph of new information takes not less than two hours. so there is very little that can be achieved in a day. We were forced to merge the duties of the cleaner and babby sitter, lower the quality of the food due to lack of funds orchestrated by the increase in the number of participants. However, everybody was happy at the end of the event.
  • What would you do differently next time?
I will start planning and training once the publicity information is out from the Nigerian UG. I will apply for two days program. I also plan to advise the Nigerian UG to make the program a two day event.

Anything else edit

Anything else you want to share about your project?

Thanks for making UNN Librarians part of this program. Many applications to host #1lib!refNG is coming up from UNN due to the way the program was managed. Thanks to Ayo & team and the Nigerian UG for making things easy for us. I will be very grateful if the emerging groups from UNN would be sponsored to host the program in their faculties or departments. It will help me a lot in my work of creating awareness of Wikipedia and its sister projects at UNN.
Attached are some of the pictures taken at the event.
