Proposed participation
editI am Ean Teng, Khor, currently the academic member for handling the computing courses for distance learners namely Structured Programming (C Programming) and Java Programming. I would like to deliver an accepted presentation describing the use of Wikibooks content as the main educational resources to support learners’ online learning and improve learners’ engagement in the Learning Management Systems (LMS). I hope my attendance at the OpenSym 2015 is able to put me in touch with other OER practitioners, educational specialists and researchers to stimulate discussions on the use of Wikibooks in teaching practices. I would also like to emphasis that a successful e-learning must involve a good repositories (Wikibooks) in student learning environment. The use of Wikibooks in this study has sparked a lot of interest in supporting distance student learning environment and improve learners' engagement during the semester duration. Furthermore, I would like to highlight that many Wikibookians have been put forth their best efforts in completing a Wikibooks for a specific subject. I hope my participation in OpenSym 2015 will encourage other learners to recognize the value and importance of open collaboration in Wikibooks community and considering using Wikibooks as one of their main educational resources in teaching and learning environment.
Goal and expected impact
editThe following are the goals that I would like to proposed during my participation in OpenSym 2015:
- To demonstrate the use of Wikibooks to facilitate online teaching practices
- To show the use of Wikibooks as additional educational resources to attract students for more active learning participation, motivated to learn
- To describe the mapping of Wikibooks content mainly Wikibooks: C Programming and Wikibooks: Java Programming correspond to the course unit's contents for distance learning
