I am an active Wikipedian that have contributed to Commons and the Norwegian projects for several years. Since I've started contributing I've donated 1.500 photographs to Commons.

Recently my main area for contributions have been quality portraits of artists and notable people for Commons. I have covered events, festivals and concerts in Oslo through cooperation with institutions, venues, festivals, artists and artist management. Many of the artists are of international interest and the project have reach outside the Norwegian wikiprojects. This was also a subject of a recent GLAM Newsletter.

Through the summer of 2016 I plan to cover 4-6 musical festivals for the purpose of photographing artists on stage. One of these festivals, Stavernfestivalen, requires travel to Stavern and I apply for support to cover travel cost here. The festival has already granted me a photo pass.

I will make it a priority to photograph and use photographs of female artists, thereby contributing to reduce the gender gap in Wikipedia. I will do this by take special care in making sure female artists are photographed. An increased numbers of photographs of female subjects will contribute to there being more and better Wikipedia articles about female artists.

The festivals that have already accepted are: Piknik i Parken (Oslo), Q25 (Kristiansand), Stavernfestivalen (Stavern) and Skralfestivalen (Grimstad). Festivals that are pending the applications are: Oslo Jazzfestival (Oslo) and Granit (Oslo).

Wikimedia Norge has contributed with administrative support and access to culture institutions and contacts in Norway. I'm not receiving monetary compensation from any other organizations and the project is based on my voluntary contribution. This application is to cover travel cost to this festival.

Goal and expected impact

As a result of me traveling to the festival, Wikipedia Commons will see an increase of donated, free images of musical artists. More Wikipedia articles will be illustrated by high quality portraits. More articles of female subjects will be illustrated. The photographs are of artists that have relevance for projects outside Norway too.

Three daily return trips from Oslo to Stavern (approximently 310 kilometers each day, total 930 km)
