Proposed participation edit

We, Reem Al-Kashif and لا روسا, are active Wikipedians with high expertise in Wikipedia Education Program. There are side activities during the conference, we will organize a Wikipedia Education Meetup to showcase Wikipedia Education Program in Egypt as an example of a program in the Arab World. We will also actively participate by attending the conference and connecting with specific people, sharing learnings and insights.

Goal and expected impact edit

As a result of our activity, more people will be introduced to Wikipedia Education Program and more programs will start in new places. Consequently, contributions in Arabic Wikipedia will increase the gender gap in participation percentages will decrease.

Endorsements edit

  • It would be great to have these two strong program leaders participate in this global education conference. I think it would be valuable for them to get exposure to the wider education community and at the same time they can share stories of their successful and innovative programmatic work on Wikipedia with students in Egypt. I know both of these volunteers are passionate about the subject and would be great ambassadors for the Wikimedia Movement to a broader audience. I also know there may be particular opportunities for regional networking since universities of the host country will be represented and could consider implementing or working directly with these users or the Egyptian user group. Tighe Flanagan (WMF) (talk) 04:22, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
I've also just reached out to the organizers to flag the potential participation of these two program leaders to see if we can submit a workshop proposal or find other space in the agenda to highlight their program in one format or another. Tighe Flanagan (WMF) (talk) 15:50, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
  • Walaa and Reem are tirelessly supporting the Wikimedia movement and the Wikipedia Education Program for years. They were of the driving forces behind the success of the program in Egypt and the empowerment of women on the Arabic Wikipedia. Walaa and Reem have participated effectively in several international events in which they represented the Egyptian education program and exchanged their experience with other Wikipedians and others outside the movement. They both are also active members of the Wikipedia Education Collaborative in which they work on sharing their experience with other program initiators around the world. I think Reem and Walaa's trip to Doha will be fruitful and supportive for the whole movement. Selsharbaty (WMF) (talk) 18:58, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
  • Strong endorsement for this request, for the reasons explained by Tighe and Samir above. FKoudijs (WMF) (talk) 22:07, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
