Proposed participation

edit

I am an experienced software developer, volunteering as programmer and translator in wikitranslate.org
I have very few experience with Semantic MediaWiki, and I would like to learn much more about it as user and programmer. My experience in Wikimedia Hackathons has been successful and I think this is the right event where I can be familiar with Semantic MediaWiki structure.

I am part of MediaWiki Stakeholders' Group and I believe that attendance at SMWCon will help me in understanding how people are using Semantic MediaWiki from user's point of view and how it works in technical side.

Goal and expected impact

edit

As a result of my successful partition, I will be able to improve our current work in wikitranslate.org and will be more confident in continuing my volunteering contribution in MediaWiki core.

Also, I will be helping in preparing a presentation on how WikiTranslate is using Semantic MediaWiki to further learning of foreign languages and get some feedback from the community on how we can help to further develop MediaWiki and the greater Wikimedia community.

  • Eldira is part of the very innovative project Wikitranslate which is exploring as well as implementing new methods of easily learning foreign languages using MediaWiki and related extensions. It will be very interesting to learn how the didactic approach translates into the structure of content and the resulting use of the software which is a very challenging subject as we know from e.g. Wikipedias content translation. I believe that we can learn from this experience and share information. [[kgh]] (talk) 18:56, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
  • From working with her on Wikitranslate and seeing her involvement in previous hackathons, I know that Edlira is capable of making Wikitranslate an even better tool for teaching foreign languages, especially if she has the opportunity to work face-to-face with other SMW hackers.
