  • Translate the Mediawiki Software, Tools and system messages from English to other languages such as; Hausa, Afrikaans, Akan, Twi etc.
  • Improve outdated translated pages/system messages on MediaWiki and other software projects like pywikibot, kiwix, wiki education dashboard and the Wikipedia library.
  • Review translated system messages /pages on MediaWiki and other Wikimedia software projects and tools.

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

Day 1. Participants will be introduced to technical translations on MediaWiki and other software projects and tools.

Day 2. Participants will be basically working on translating the MediaWiki software and other software projects and tools. Below are some of the projects and tools we will be translating.

Why are you targeting a specific audience? We would share the link on all social media platforms and the Wikimedia mailing list, not excluding;

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

  • The participants from the hackathon would have translated some of the Wikimedia Softwares and projects from English to other African Languages.
  • Participants would have improved a lot of translated system messages and pages related to on mediawiki and other wikimedia software projects and tools.
  • Participants would have reviewed a lot of the translated pages and translated system messages in other African Languages.
  • After the hackathon we will conduct a survey to determine the challenges of Participants with regards to contributing to this translation

What resources do you have? Include information on who is the organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

  • Joris Darlington Quarshie: is an experienced technical contributor to Wikimedia projects and has experience as a lead facilitator for the African Wikimedia Developers Project . He will coordinate the entire project.
  • Jesse Akrofi - He will be providing help desk support to participants.
  • Rejoice Agbi- She is an experienced Wikimedian that provides social media campaigns,communication and Logistics. So she will be providing logistics assistance for this project.
  • Other general support

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense:

  • Space rent for two days: $150 x 2 = $300
  • Lunch and beverages: $10 x 10 x (2 days) = $200
  • Internet: $100 x 2 = $200
  • Name tags, pens,notepads, flyers, stickers = $100
  • Scholarships for participants (for transportation and childcare) 100 x 10 = $1,000
  • Covid-19 safety supplies (sanitizers, masks) = $50
  • Contingency: $50
