Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
- Conducting the first competition WLE 2020 in Turkey, We were able to achieve our goals.
- To engage new and existing members of the community.
- To increase the number of freely licensed and quality images of national parks, protected areas and nature of Turkey to Wikimedia Commons.
- To spread awareness about Wikimedia projects in Turkey.
- To contribute to nature protection by raising public awareness.
- Improve the quality of Wikipedia articles.

- What worked well?
- The number of photos uploaded and new contributors to the projects for this contest was more than expected. We have learned that Central Notice is the best tool to reach a large audience.
WLE Turkey contest had good coverage in the media. We have learned that such contests are a great way of getting media attention and that in future projects we could use Wiki Loves contests for increasing general awareness on the projects more effectively. This experience helped us increase our media contacts and develop press release writing skills.
- What did not work so well?
- We did not plan an award ceremony at the beginning of the project but we saw that in order to show our appreciation, it would be better to get together with the award recipients and jury after the contest ended. Therefore with a last minute decision, we had invited them to our online user-group meeting. This allowed them to meet with some active wikimedians and have a nice informal chat and also allowed the group to give a round of applause to the winners and the jury. Next time, we'd like to plan an offline or online ceremony at the beginning, invite more people and maybe some press members.
- What would you do differently next time?
- We might think of an effective way to follow up with the new contributors after the project. We could contact those contributors to follow up about whether their images are being used in any article, whether they would be interested in uploading more photos or contribute to the projects in different ways. 2020 awards are slightly less for the photo contest.
