  3. Recruit new editors

Project Plan edit

Activities edit

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?

The contest spreads awareness of Asian-related topics which are under-represented on the Slovak Wikipedia. Together with CEE Spring, Wikipedia Asian Month became an important part for our outreach strategy, attracting new users to the Slovak Wikipedia and incentivising editors to create new high-quality content.

2. How will you let people know about the contest?

On-wiki project page „Wikipédia:Ázijský mesiac Wikipédie 2020“ will serve as our primary communication channel with Wikimedia community. We will make use of our user group’s social media channels – especially pages Slovenská Wikipédia (“Slovak Wikipedia”) and Wikimedia Slovensko (“Wikimedia Slovakia”, e.g. Wikimedians of Slovakia User Group) on Facebook which remains the most popular social media network in Slovakia (with over 2.5 million monthly users). We plan to use Facebook advertising targeting to reach a large audience of possible future Wikipedia contributors.

3. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?

We will select three contestants with largest contribution and one new user contestant with largest contribution.
To determine the size of contestant's contribution, we will count the final size of each article in bytes without templates, infoboxes and multimedia content (pictures, etc.). We will award additional points for qualitative criteria (quality of references, grammar, coverage broadness, neutrality).
To determine new user contestants, we will choose from users who have been registered during September – December 2020.

4. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?

Photo contest is not part of this contest.

5. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

No, we are not.

6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Impact edit

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more: For writing contests:

  1. Number of participants: 14
  2. Number of articles created: 86

Note: We had six participants who contributed 36 articles in 2018 and seven participants who contributed 43 articles in 2019. This year, we would like to at least double the number of participants and articles created.

Resources edit

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

The organizers of the contest will be four experienced users of the Slovak Wikipedia (Lišiak, Jetam2, Akdar, Armin), who have held several projects together (CEE Spring, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wikipedia Asian Month) and will dedicate their time and effort to build upon past success of this contest and achieve its goals.
