Project Goal edit

Choose one or more of the following goals. You can add or delete goals as needed.

  1. Add or improve content
  2. Promote the use of Wikipedia as a tool for librarians, a tool that they can use but also contribute to with the local reference resources they have

Project Plan edit

Activities edit

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We are doing a series of 7 editathons in Bucharest, Cluj, Pitești, Galați (Romania), as well as Chișinău, Hîncești and Ungheni (Republic of Moldova). For Bucharest the location will be the National Library of Romania and the event will be held on January 29. For Pitești and Galați the events will be held at county libraries at the beginning of February. In Moldova the events will be held in the local municipal library of the cities in question.

2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

Project will be announced to ro:Wikipedia:Cafenea when we will have the dates. Also, each library and partner will post about the events on their Facebook and Web pages.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?

Yes, both the grantees and the second contact persons that will be involved have experience as Wikimedia editors.

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

We will be using libraries as locations that have computers and Internet access. Computer skills will vary, but we expect all participants to have at least basic computer knowledge. Most of the participants have experience with bibliographic work and have been using computers in their work. We will also provide a cheatsheet they can use when unsure.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We will send a post-event questionnaire and invite them to our support group.

6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Librarians in Romania and Moldova are not familiar with Wikipedia project. As libraries will be hosting these editathones we plan to provide them support to not only learn about it but also become advocates for Wikipedia in their professional communities.

Impact edit

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events: 6
  2. Number of participants: 90 (15 per event)
  3. Number of new editors: 90 (we don't expect any of them to be editors)
  4. Number of of articles created or improved: 200 (approx. two per participant)
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events): 0 except organizers (participants will likely attend only their local event; some might participate online, we will try to support them to the best of our ability)
