Goals edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes! We did not meet all our goals but we are still very happy with the outcome of the project. Our goals were to have 15 participants and 10 editors. We hoped to create or improve 30 articles. At this event we had 10 total participants, 8 of whom were new editors. Having a group of people very new to the process, we worked slower than expected, but learned a lot together about how to edit on wikipedia. As a group we created 5 articles and edited an additional 15.

Outcome edit

Please report on your original project targets.

Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
  • What did not work so well?
  • What would you do differently next time?

Focusing on a specific theme (women artists in Alberta) worked well because we were able to gather specific, useful books and sources from the library in advance. Having a lot of reference books in the space helped participants decide what to write about and gather enough credible sources. Working with a group who had almost no experience editing on Wikipedia was very rewarding but also challenging. Next time we hope to have a few more experienced editors to help support new editors even more.

Hosting the event at the gallery worked very well. The space was a comfortable work environment and in an accessible location. One potential issue for the future is with a larger group we might have difficulties with the internet speed. Luckily with the size of our group we didn't have any issues this time around. Next time, we would like to spend more resources advertising the event and build connections from the work done years past.
