Project Plan edit

Activities edit

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

A series of online training where participants especially new participants from the indigenous community to learn about the basic of editing Wikipedia and create awareness on the importantness of preserving the language as fast as possible.

2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

  • The most important way to advertise the contest will be central notice banner in Malay Wikipedia.
  • Posting announcements in local language and culture related forums and sites.
  • Press release announcing the training just some days before the starting date
  • Collaboration with other non-governmental organisation i.e. Sama Bajau Language & Culture Association (BSBB).
  • Communication through our social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook) which have limited reach.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?

Yes. It will lead by me (Tofeiku) and current editors from BSBB.
  • Tofeiku: Organizer of WikiKata, Malay Wikipedia admin and of Sabah indigenous.

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Participants only need a laptop to edit or a smartphone if they do not have a laptop (current editors mostly use smartphone to edit). They also need to have basic Internet connection to edit.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We will keep them in contact and encourage them to continue expand the content in Incubator. We will also invite them to join other activities organised by WCUGMY. Furthermore, we will cooperate with the participants for the development of new Wikipedia versions in Malaysia's indigenous languages through Wikimedia Incubator.

6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Wikilatih aims to teach formally on how to edit Wikipedia articles. Current editors in the Incubator do not follow well the formats. There are only 2 editors in Wikipedia West Coast Bajau. By having this training, it would increase more editors especially from the youth to expand the Wikipedia and release it from Incubator.

Impact edit

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of participants: 10 - 20
  2. Number of new editors: 5 - 15
