Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
We were very happy to have achieved our goals despite having the events in 3 different locations for this campaign for the first time. We hosted physical events in 3 cities in 3 states. These cities were Ilorin, Owerri and Lagos. A 3-day training and Edit-a-thon was held in Owerri and Ilorin except for Lagos where it was held for 2 days. After the physical events in each of these cities, participants were subsequently engaged in a 1-month contest in each of the participating communities within the project timeline. The physical events featured a hybrid of 26 newbies and 37 previous participants/old editors across the 3 communities. We improved 61 articles, added 1.5M words to English Wikipedia, translated 5 English Wikipedia articles to Igbo, and uploaded pictures to commons. The campaign was a great opportunity to engage local communities in Nigeria and contribute as one community towards the success of the global campaign. In the Lagos event, we had participants from the last year's event group feature in organizing event that was held in the American Corner Ikeja, Lagos that brought in experienced Wikimedian, Kayusyussuf; Bolanle Olumeko of the United Nations Information Center; and Director of the American Corner, Stephanie Adesanya.

Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
Securing the funds in time was the biggest contributor to the success of the campaign. Credit to the WMF Resources teams for their efforts and support all through this process. Also, organizing the event in three different local communities in Nigeria played a role in reaching a broad audience and increasing participation. Initially, we planned to have an online event for the previous year participants in Lagos. But considering poor internet connectivity, power issues and ability to ensure full participation amongst these challenges resulted in the decision to hold a 2-day physical event in Lagos to avoid waste of time and resources. Hence, we reached out and were provided a free venue, equipment, internet connectivity etc at the American Corner, Ikeja, Lagos for the event that brought in about 30 people. The event venue, along with a representative (Bolanle Olumeko) of the United Nations Information Center, Lagos as well as a representative (Kayode Yussuf) from Wikimedia Nigeria were some of the features that brought a lot of color to the event. In particular, Bolanle Olumeko, highlighted the importance of open knowledge on the newly UN adopted human right and how people in attendance can contribute to this knowledge.
Moreover, it was impressive to see the previous year participants and build more on the existing relationship in the community that played a role in further engagement after the 2-day event. It's even exciting to have participants edit on the second day of the program. As a result of this, there was proper utilization of both time and resources.
- What did not work so well?
If we didn't switch to a physical event in Lagos, there would have been a need to answer this question because we would have had a scenario where participants might not even engage in the contest during and after the online training. We are happy we made a decision that amounted to a great success.
- What would you do differently next time?
We will love to build on existing and new partnerships in the future paying more attention to media partners among others.

Remaining funds
editDo you have any remaining grant funds?
Although we did not hold the earlier proposed online training for the Lagos participants and as such, shouldn't have spent the Zoom hosting and subscription cost worth 60 USD, we however used this to aid support for refreshments for the Lagos event was in-person contrary to the proposed online event.
