Project Goal edit
Choose one or more of the following goals. You can add or delete goals as needed.
- To introduce students and community members to Wikipedia and establish a presence
- To introduce students to the Wiki for Human Rights campaign and get them thinking about how they can contribute content on human rights and the environment on Wikipedia and other sister projects.
- To communicate the level of New Mexico Climate challenges that affect water resources and brainstorm on how to correct the anomaly through Wikipedia.

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- This is a 2-day workshop that will bring together about 25 undergraduate students, introduce them to Wikipedia and the #Wikiforhumanrights campaign. With the New Mexico State of the US fraught with various environmental problems including climate challenges that affect water resources among several others, this event will serve as an opportunity to introduce the Wikimedia movement to students and activists to discuss and share ideas on how they can employ Wikipedia to address environmental challenges confronting the state while documenting fact-based content on these issues. New Mexico has no Wikipedia presence and this serves as an opportunity to get in the students in the area involved.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
We will send emails to our affiliate and also create a meta page to alert community members about this proposal.
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
Designed posters/flyer will be shared on social media and via student email list inviting prospective participants to the event. Physical announcements will be made in the classrooms. We will also share on the general Wikimedia Telegram group.
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.

Yes, we have active Wikimedia editors to support the event one of such is Jwale2 , Pambelle12 and some environmental activists in the movement
5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
Participants have laptops, other mobile devices and digital skills to enable them participate effectively.
6. What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?
- As with all Wikimedia events, a dashboard will be created to monitor contribution to the campaign in both articles (Wikipedia) and images (Wikimedia Commons).
- Students will be exposed on the interconnection between Human Rights and the Environment and the role Wikipedia plays in ensuring access to fact-based knowledge on the topic
- Students who are new editors will be helped to create their Wikipedia account and introduced to some new basic editing skills
- Students will participate in an edit-a-thon on the day two of the event which will be graded as part of their course work.
- Students will be exposed to other Wikipedia sister projects and how they can leverage on then to enhance climate communication Students will be introduced to the wikimedia community and how they can continue engagement and be involved, who knows? A wiki club could come out of this.

8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
Day one of the event is designed to be an introductory session to Wikipedia and Wiki For Human Rights. Day two encompasses a hands-on practice on editing Wikipedia and an edit-a-ton.
Impact edit
How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:
- At least 25 students who are new to Wikipedia will be introduced
- At least 20 students will be able to create their Wikipedia account and start their journey
- Students will be introduced to Wikimedia Commons and how they can contribute to content about climate change and upload such images on Wikipedia pages
- 50 images will be uploaded on Wikimedia commons

Three volunteers to help organize the event:
- Pamela Ofori- Boateng is a Wikipedia editor/volunteer over the last five years with a portfolio of community leadership and activities with Open Foundation West Africa in Ghana, where she originally hail from and now a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the US.
- Jesse Akrofi is an active Wikipedia editor and host of the Podcast, Wiki Update
- Event will also include speakers with expertise on environmental issues from the movement.
