Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- We are hosting the second event in a series of events. This event will include a introductory session and a photowalk.
2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.
- The editathon is registered on the Wikipedia Outreach Dashboard: and the Women's’ Suffrage 125 project event page. We have also made a Facebook event on the New Zealand Fashion Museum Facebook page . We have published the event through NZFM’s social media pages, and also Mike Dickison’s (New Zealand's Wikipedian at Large) mailing list. We will publicise it several more times using this system before the editathon.
3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?
- Yes, we will have Susan Tolich, New Zealand’s first Wikimedian in residence, as the main experienced Wikipedian to help facilitate the event. Mike Dickison will be on hand to help.
4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- This event is aimed at all levels of skill and the participants do not need to know anything as we will aim to teach them the basic wikipedia editing skills. We have asked the attendees to bring their own device. We will bring a couple of spare devices. WI-FI is available in the venue where the event will take place. We will bring books from various sources that participants can use as they prepare their articles. We will select a range of projects that will suit different skill levels, so everyone has the opportunity to contribute something meaningful. This will range from editing existing stubs to creating new pages. For the photowalk we will ask participants to bring either a smartphone or a suitable digital camera.
5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- We will thank participants on their Talk pages after the event and invite them to continue editing and partaking in wikipedia events. We will extend an invitation to join the Wikipedia New Zealand group, run by Mike Dickison, which holds frequent wikipedia related meetups.
6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
- Due to the success of a previous edit-a-thon, run as part of Art + Feminism campaign, the New Zealand Fashion Museum have decided to run another event. This event will be run in conjunction with New Zealand's 125th anniversary of women's suffrage.
- The New Zealand Fashion Museum is an online museum and hosts over 200 profiles of New Zealand fashion designers and accompanying images. This wealth of accessible online information that can be drawn upon during the edit-a-thon presents an excellent opportunity to enrich Wikipedia with stories of New Zealand fashion designers. The event will be run at the Ellen Melville centre in downtown Auckland. This centre allows for a window display of garments from the fashion museum and will be highly visible to passers by. There will be a photowalk that happens during the day where photographers can capture store fronts and buildings of fashion designers. These will be uploaded to wikicommons and help improve the pages of designers.
How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:
- Number of events: 1
- Number of participants: 10
- Number of new editors: 5
- Number of of articles created or improved: 10
- Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events): 4
What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).
- We have 2 experienced Wikipedians who will organize the event and provide training and one-on-one support.
What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.

- Support. This is a follow-up to a successful editing meetup I attended, and will help to correct some of the gender imbalance in the NZ editing community. - Support. This is one of a series of events intended to not just encourage new editors but also to help retain and improve the skills those new editors recruited at the first event. I believe the focus of the editathon on the anniversary of New Zealand womens sufferage will help address some of the gender bias in Wikipedia content. As such I support this request for funding.
