Goals edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes. I met my goals. Yes I am happy with how everything went on. My first tool for users on toolforge. A lot of learning from this. The final result is, now we have a tool that have a responsive UI, statistics, administration. Users can seamlessly upload images from free licensed as well any twitter account. I have taken measures so that abusive use can be blocked quickly. The grants team has helped a lot. Wikimedia Cloud IRC channel also helped a lot. I have got feedback and improved according and that is very good experience.

Outcome edit

Please report on your original project targets.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Creating an app/tool where users can upload images from free licensed twitter to commons. Twitter to Commons Created a tool that is responsive, have an easy to use UI and an use can seamlessly upload image from twitter to commons, It has a statistics page. An uploads checker page, a canceled tweet checking page. It also has a page where users can request new account. There is also an administration page where admins can perform tasks that will prevent abusive use of the tool.
User 20, Image Uplaoded 2000, and used image 500 Twitter to commons statistics will show current statistics. At the time of writing it is 9 users, 29 photos, Total files used 7. I had set an initial target of 6 months before the tools get ready. So After 6 months This can be more visualized. However the tool is there so the uplods and usage will grow eventually.

Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

The project as I have assumed went well. The tool process that I have imagined has gone well. The flow and user experience went well. Got all help at right time from the Wikimedia Cloud team and the IRC channel of WMCS team is very responsive. Another learning is when you are building a tool and expecting to be used by public then always ready to make changes. I have came across a request and extended the tool feature. It now supports any twitter account rather than only listed copyright free accounts.

  • What did not work so well?

Reaching to more users. I have communicated with my community and shared news on some groups but I think more awareness could have done. I am still working to create a blog and spread more about the too. Documentation: I have created the documentation. I think documentation can always be better and other people who are good in writing can requested to help. Another thing that didn't well is project time line as I have hit by a severe cyclone Fani. I was out of electricity for around 13 days and no internet around 1 month. So for this unfortunate and uncontrollable reason I have to delay my overall work and the tool building as well.

  • What would you do differently next time?

Next time I will ask for more time. May ask more people to involve in documentation.

Finances edit

Grant funds spent edit

Please describe how much grant money you spent for approved expenses, and tell us what you spent it on.

As I have described in my project I have spent the money for my involvement.

Project time is two months and 1800USD as Project cost. (10USD/hr X 30hr/Week) x 6 Weeks (I will contribute 2 weeks with my volunteer capacity.)

I have spent more time on my volunteer capacity and will support in future too.

Remaining funds edit

Do you have any remaining grant funds? No I don't have any funds left.

Anything else edit

Anything else you want to share about your project? I am happy about how the project went on and the help from everyone. I am thankful to the foundation for providing financial support. I learned a lot and got in touch with many people during the process or request, work and testing. I am planning to build another tool. There is no timeline for that for eventually I will be building it. Thank You!
