Project Goal edit

Choose one or more of the following goals. You can add or delete goals as needed. You can add details to each goal.

  1. Add or improve content

Project Plan edit

Activities edit

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. How many walks/tours will you organize and how many people on each walk?

The number of tours will depend on various conditions (weather, driver availability) but it would be at 10-12 tours for the requested amount of money. At primary calculations, this amount of money would be enough to cover circa 3200 km distance. I would be sole participant (plus my driver).

See list of some required images in illustration project and list of possible routs at the end of the page.

2. What kind of content will the walks focus on? Why is this topic a priority?

The main focus will be small Lithuanian settlements. We already have a good photo-base of Lithuanian cities and towns, also we have photos of all the churches, most of chapels and other heritage objects. But many smaller villages (1 to 500 inhabitants) mostly are ignored by our photographers. They usually do not posses official heritage objects but most of them still preserve traditional wooden architecture, traditional planing. As rural population in Lithuania decreases drastically and because of house renovation these traditional features are vanishing very quickly now, so it would be very valuable to save at least photos of these places for future generations. I myself am a witness of how the village, I have made photo of, next time I visited it, was already gone. By the efforts of myself and my colleges at lt.wikipedia the regions of Central Lithuania are covered better but some regions with especially authentic architecture (lt:Švenčionių rajono savivaldybė, lt:Ignalinos rajono savivaldybė, lt:Utenos rajono savivaldybė, lt:Varėnos rajono savivaldybė, lt:Telšių rajono savivaldybė, lt:Molėtų rajono savivaldybė) still are poorly covered. Sure, other wayside important objects (manors, crosses, rivers, lakes, nature heritage) will be in my scope.

3. What is the plan to ensure images will be used on Wikimedia projects?

As places, which still are not covered, will be in scope, naturally the pictures which would be made during the project would be uploaded by me and inserted into the corresponding pages.

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

I posses fairly good quality camera NIKON D5100 and have enough skills and experience. My focus in this instance is quantity and not the super quality. The pictures will be poor quality for "Featured pictures" at Wikimedia Commons but good enough for usual illustration. For ex. commons:User:Hugo.arg.
I have enough experience as I started upload photos for Wikipedia since 2006 and have uploaded some thousand of them. Having no car (and car-license) and enough money to fund somebody to drive me into distant locations I primarily relied on my bicycle and covered almost all locations in my native Kėdainiai district and later in my current residing place lt:Vilnius surroundings. Also, sometimes I have traveled to certain locations by train or bus, and sometimes I have got assistance from my car-possessing family members. List of the main phototours done by me presented in this page - lt:Naudotojas:Hugo.arg/Fotožygiai. During this time I gathered necessary experience to identify small locations using several different maps as in Lithuania a lot of villages are not compact but rather consists from scattered houses which identification to certain habitable place sometimes is complicated.

5. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Impact edit

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more:

  1. Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons: >500
  2. Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects: >500 (all of them will be used)
  3. To cover most of Lithuanian ethnographic villages (list)
  4. To finish all the habitable places in Kėdainiai district (list)
  5. To make significant improvement in poorly illustrated regions (Švenčionys, Ignalina, Varėna, Telšiai districts)

Resources edit

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

As I covered almost everything I could reach in a day by the bicycle I need a car assistance. It is possible to get a car from the several non-wikipedia persons but it needs money to cover fuel expenditure.

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.

The sole expenditure would be fuel, which is necessary to make wide scope photo-travels to the distant locations from my residing place in lt:Kėdainiai or lt:Vilnius.

(all distances measured using http://www.maps.lt/ . Medial fuel expenditure for Toyota car - 7-8 l (diesel)/100 km. Current diesel price in Lithuania - 1.02 EUR)
