Project Goal

edit

Briefly explain what are you trying to accomplish with this project, or what do you expect will change as a result of this grant. Example goals include, "recruit new editors", "add high quality content", or "train existing editors on a specific skill".

I aim to organize one local event as part of Wikimedia Hackathon to increase number of developer contributors from Turkey. Also I hope to create a local developer community here which will continue to contribute together after the event too.

Project Plan

Activities

edit

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

I will be preparing a set of resources before the event for newcomers. Also I will physically available during the event as an experienced developer to make sure people are able to contribute to projects and help them in case they need. I will reach women in tech groups before the event to make sure everyone benefits from the event equally. And I will make sure code of conduct is followed and everyone is in a safe place.

How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience?

I will reach to Wikimedia Turkey User Group, Women Developers group and Free Software Association in Turkey as there can be relevant attendees in these groups.

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

One of the gain of this project is showing people the right resources and channel so that they can continue contributing after the event too. I am planning to stay tuned after the event for further questions and further collaborations for contributing together. I hope a technical community of Wikimedia contributors will appear after this event.

Impact

edit

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more specific to your project:

  1. Number of total participants 15
  2. Number of articles created or improved (if applicable)
  3. Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (if applicable)
  4. Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects (if applicable)
I aim at least 5 code contributions will be sent to Wikimedia projects at the and of the event out of 15 attendees.
