Project Goal

To conduct a 3 day hackathon on May 20-22 2022 as Wikimedia hackathon happening on these globally, along with Tamil Wikipedia community.

Project Plan

1. Give training on code contribution to wikipedia tools, bots, apps
2. Conduct a hackathon
3. Arrange watch party for global events
4. Will do a local cultural tour

Activities

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

We will give a training on developing bots, widgets and mobile apps for Wikipedia.

Will conduct a watch party for global hackathon start and final events.

How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience?

Will announce in Indic wikimedia mailing lists, indic wiki's village pump, social media and telegram groups.

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

The bots, gadgets, apps developed will be released at the end of the hackathon. Will add all the participants to wikipedia mailing lists, social media and telegram groups for further followups.

Impact

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more specific to your project:

1. Number of total participants - 15
2. Number of articles created or improved (if applicable)
3. Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (if applicable)
4. Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects (if applicable)

Each participant will be developing minimum one bot or tool or gadget or app at the end of the hackathon.

Myself, Tshirinivasan, am organizing this hackathon at chennai. Being contributing for wikipedia with code, for past 10+ years, (OCR4WikiSource is one if my useful tools for Indic Wikisorce community), I will use this opportunity to train new developers and bring more contributors. I Will get support from Tamil wikipedia community to give training, materials, mentorship. Small wiki team has good collection of example programs. Will use them for training.
