Project Plan edit

Activities edit

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. How many walks/tours will you organize and how many people on each walk?

I will organize three (3) photo walks in two regions of Ghana - Greater Accra and Central Region. Two (2) photo walks will be organized in the Greater Accra Region, namely Tema and Accra Central, while one (1) photo walk will be in Kasoa in the Central Region.

Each photo walk will involve 5 volunteers

2. What kind of content will the walks focus on? Why is this topic a priority?
Environmental Awareness in Ghana - The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2019 calls for a reduction in plastic pollution to benefit the environment and reduce human exposure.

Many countries around the world are fighting to end the menace of environmental pollution in order to make the environment clean and healthier. It’s important to address this issue to help raise awareness and achieve the goals in making our environment clean and healthy for all of us.

The photowalk will focus on capturing environmental images that depict the current state of Ghana’s environmental issues such as climate change, fumes from vehicles, excessive burning of refuse/trash, improper disposal of refuse among others.

We would also capture the other side of environmental interventions by innovative individuals and organizations such as tree planting exercises, from trash to bin inventions by local social enterprises that seek to reverse the trend of environmental degradation among others. This photowalk is in line with the current #Wikiforhumanrights campaign that seeks more articles on global environmental issues.

3. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

We inform our affiliate through the community social media platform to alert the members about this proposal.

4. How will you let participants know about the photowalk? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

We will send emails to them, share on social media and also on community platform as well.

5. What is the plan to ensure images will be used on Wikimedia projects?

Images taken by the photographers will be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, which will be a resource for accessibility to be used on Wikimedia and Wikipedia projects. It will also serve as a resource to garner images for articles created during the Wiki for Human Rights campaign that is currently ongoing.

6. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Participants are skilled photographers with equipment who have worked in the media and the Wikimedia community as volunteers for some years now and will contribute high quality images for the project.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Due to an increase in daily pollution on our environment, I will be happy to have this grant approved to execute this project to raise more awareness on the negative impact of environmental pollution to save our planet for future generations.

Impact edit

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more:

  1. Number of participants 5
  2. Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons 200
  3. Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects 200
