Briefly explain what are you trying to accomplish with this project, or what do you expect will change as a result of this grant.

1) Develop and test micro-crowdsourcing tasks to lower barriers to entry for new volunteers, and evaluate if those types of activities increase participation from communities with less free time and Wikipedia-savvy (similar to #1Lib1Ref, and the Wiki Art Depiction Explorer project underway with Wikimedia DC).

2) Test efficiency of this method in comparison with existing campaigns based on archival data. My goal here is to use experiments online to find a more effective way to incentivize editor participation across the world remotely and thereby increasing diversity.

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

1) Test 4 to 10 new micro-crowdsourcing models and collect data on resulting community engagement and content creation to share online.

How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience?

I will design and implement experiments and share details and results online.

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

I will either publish a webpage with experimental findings. If my experiment turns out to be successful, organizations that partner with Wikipedia can use it for their own projects.

I'm currently a PhD student, and I can get advice from professors at the university.

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense:

 $100 for building tools and $ 400 for testing it using workers from Amazon mTurk. Each worker will be paid $2 for participation.
