Goals edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

We could not meet all our goals but I am happy that we did achieve some of our goals.

Outcome edit

Please report on your original project targets. We wanted to:

  • Organise two training workshops (one training workshop in each school)
  • Establish two Wikipedia clubs (one club in each school)
  • Recruit 10 new editors
  • Create 12 new articles on English Wikipedia
  • Upload at least 50 pictures to Wikimedia Commons
  • Increase readership for the students

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Organise two training workshops (one training workshop in each school) Organised three training workshops in one school We gained access to the tertiary school but not a senior high school due to the beureucratic nature of the educational system in Ghana. We gained access to Bawku Senior High School, but the school does not have an ICT lab we decided not to organise the training there since it will be impossible to retain the project in such a situation.
Establish two Wikipedia clubs (one club in each school) We established only one Wikipedia Club at the University for Development Studies It is becoming long and impossible to gain access to a senior high school in Upper East. We gained access to Bawku Senior High School, but the school does not have an ICT lab we decided not to organise the training there since it will be impossible to sustain the club in such a situation.
Recruit at least 10 new editors Recruited about 30 new editors
Create 12 new articles on English Wikipedia About 30 new articles were created on English Wikipedia
Upload at least 50 pictures to Wikimedia Commons Uploaded about 74 pictures to Wikimedia Commons
Increase readership for the students We provided one Internet-In-a-Box to the club
None We organized one photowalk session to introduce students to Wik Loves Monuments since it was happening in the month of September

Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

With the help of a lecturer, It was easy getting access to the tertiary institution

  • What did not work so well?

Due to the strict curriculum and bureaucracy of the senior high schools, our permission to have access to the students wasn't granted by the school's authorities.

  • What would you do differently next time?

Send out letters to schools on time especially the senior high schools. If we had a contact person, just like we did for UDS, I believe it would have been easy to get access to at least one senior high school.
