Celebrating 15 years of editing the Afrikaans Wikipedia is, what we believe, an important milestone in not only engaging with existing stakeholders, but also recruiting new editors that share an interest in becoming part of the editing community. This project aims to bring together members of the Afrikaans editing community who have not previously had the opportunity to do so.

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?
We want to arrange this project to co-incide with the AGM of Wikimedia ZA which will be held in Cape Town in November 2016. Members from the Afrikaans community (along with others from other wikis) will be invited to attend both the AGM and a cocktail event in the afternoon. Basic logistics will fall within the scope of arrangements that have to be made for the AGM, and will only extend to additional flight and accommodation arrangements, as well as the cocktail party.
Various organisations (specifically established to promote the growth of Afrikaans) have expressed their interest in partnering with Wikimedia ZA to promote and support the event and birthday through various mediums such as radio, website traffic and newsprint.

The event will be advertised on the Afrikaans Wkipedia through the talk portal.
As mentioned above, we will also be partnering with the organisations to promote the event and birthday through various platforms and media.
What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?
This grant, if successful, will provide opportunities for members of the Afrikaans editing community (from other parts of South Africa, not limited to Cape Town City) to attend the AGM and birthday celebrations. As a chapter, Wikimedia ZA has, in the past, mainly focused on promoting and supporting the en.wikipedia editing community. Over the last couple of years, the chapter has spent time focusing on reaching out to members of this smaller language Wikipedia. We believe that birthday celebration will be an opportunity for the chapter to reach out to Afrikaans speaking individuals and provide them with the opportunity to become part of the vision of expanding this small language wiki. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that the Afrikaans wiki is used as a source of information for all Afrikaans speaking individuals in SA. Through specific outreach to the Afrikaans community, we are confident that we will increase the small number of editors currently on board.
