Activities

edit

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

NaPupila is hosting an Edit-a-thon in Rio to improve and add information on women, female identified, trans and non binary, in particular Afro-Brazilian women artists, and women artists with indigenous ancestry working in the contemporary arts in Brazil.

2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

We have added the information on our website and we will be promoting the event widely through newsletters and social media posts. We joined the Art+Feminism community in social media, in which it is possible to exchange experiences with past organizers of editathons; while gaining help to improve the communicability of our event. We are also in the contact with important Rio art organizations such as the Library of the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage (EAV), the Arts Center Helio Oiticica (CMHO), and Simone Cadinelli Contemporary Art, to help us spread the word about the event to people throughout the city. In addition, will invite an artist from the local community to design a cover for the invitation. Lastly, the event is posted on the Art+feminism website.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?

Yes, Ana Lobo, NaPupila coordinator, contributed to Wikipedia last year editing articles for women Brazilian artists. She facilitated a workshop on contributing to Wikipedia as part of the Art+Feminism edit-a-thon 2019 at the Arts Center Helio Oiticica in Rio.

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

We will host the event at the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage library space that has communal tables, chairs, and large windows that fill the space with light. We will invite participants to bring their own computers. Our curatorial collective NaPupila is creating a resource list of artists that can be used for reference, and will we bring hard copy materials to the event.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We will be including their phone numbers in a whatsapp group for participants to stay in touch and remain connected following the event. We are hoping to host an edit-a-thon every year going forward and engage a community of editors to come back and mentor new editors each year.

6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Our partner is the library at the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage (EAV), a not-for-profit organisation with a focus on the professionalization of artists, educators, writers, curators and creative minds through art education in contemporary arts.
