What specific Movement Strategy Initiative does your project focus on and why? Please select one of the initiatives described here

Project Background edit

When do you intend to begin this project and when will it be completed?
We aim to implement this project between March 25, 2024 and April 22, 2024, according to the following schedule:
Task Date
Meta Pages translation into Arabic Language and initial awareness March 25, 2024 - April 15, 2024
Engaging Arabic-speaking community on its village pumps across Wikipedia, Wikisource, etc.., and social media platforms, and Diff to announce the activities April 5, 2024 - April 15, 2024
Engagement sessions with Arabic MCDC members April 16, 2024 - April 20, 2024
Feedback Reports on Meta, and Diff in Arabic and English simultaneously with the previous engagement - April 22, 2024

We aim to begin this project immediately. The timelines for this project are detailed above, but we will specifically carry out these activities;

  • Translations and documentation, where translations do not already exist. We will update charter content, translate community consultations, FAQ, hubs piloting, and ratification construction.
  • Community outreach and pre-consultation engagements, to let the community know about the upcoming conversations. We will communicate with the regional affiliates to share their feedback. We will extend our outreach process from Wikimedia Morocco, Algeria, Sudan, etc... to even local associations like Jordanian Digital Arabic Content Association.
  • Interactive feedback collection; We will use social media platforms to post the "Movement Charter Question of the day" to engage our community to avoid survey fatigue and reach a wider audience who can't attend online meetings. We will design polls and posters to publish questions that collect feedback from the audience. We will also post these questions on village pumps and telegram.
  • Online meetings with MCDC members from the Arabic community, and a meeting

for feedback collection.

  • Feedback notes drafting and proofreading shared on meta and Diff with the MCDC; we will write summary and feedback reports in Arabic and English for MCDC and public use.
Where will your project activities be happening?
Online: we will host online meetings to onboard the community. We will invite MCDC members from the Arabic community to join online conversation so people have an opportunity to engage directly and get immediate responses to their questions. We will start by onboarding the community to the charter process and content through daily posting for 10 days before online meeting. These posts will include questions to collect feedback too.
Are you collaborating with other communities or affiliates on this project? Please provide details of how partners intend to work together to achieve the project goal.
Yes, the Arabic Window to MS, is a voluntary initiative to encourage Arabic-speaking community involvement in movement strategy and its implementation since 2022. In this project, the initiative members (NANöR, Nehaoua, Ajwaan) are coordinating the outreach, meetings’ facilitation, answering questions, follow-up social media posts, collecting feedback, communicating with MCDC members, and informing community members.
I will be responsible for translation, feedback questions, daily posts writing, online meeting content, and reports writing.
What specific challenge will your project be aiming to solve? And what opportunities do you plan to take advantage of to solve the problem?
One of the key challenges in our community is the lack of awareness about the Movement Charter. This lack of awareness prevents many individuals from fully engaging in the movement. Therefore, our project presents an opportunity for people to come together, discuss, and learn more about decision-making within the movement and how these decisions impact them and the valuable work being carried out.
There are emerging Arabic-speaking communities who need support in having a proper understanding of the shared decision in the movement, its governance, and decision-making processes that ensure DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).
We are also targeting creating a more productive and engaging feedback collection process as there is survey fatigue limiting its active participation. This process includes interactive surveys and sessions, and a better understanding of community awareness of the added value of the Movement Charter.
Does this project aim to apply one of the examples shared in the call for grants and if so which one?

Outcomes edit

After your activities are complete, we would like to understand the draft implementation plan for your community. You will be required to prepare a document detailing this plan around a movement strategy initiative. This report can be prepared through Meta-wiki using the Share your results button on this page. The report can be prepared in your language, and is not required to be written in English.

In this report, you will be asked to:

  • Provide a link to the draft implementation plan document or Wikimedia page
  • Describe what activities supported the development of the plan
  • Describe how and where you have communicated your plan to relevant communities.
  • Report on how your funding was spent

Your draft implementation plan document should address the following questions clearly:

  • What movement strategy initiative or goal are you addressing?
  • What activities will you be doing to address that initiative?
  • What do you expect will happen as a result of your activities? How do those outcomes address the movement strategy initiative?
  • How will you measure or evaluate your activities? What tools or methods will you use to evaluate your activities?

To create a draft implementation plan, we recommend the use of a logic model, which will help you and your team think about goals, activities, outcomes, and other factors in an organized way. Please refer the following resources to develop a logic model:

Please confirm below that you will be able to prepare a draft implementation plan document by the end of your grant:

  • ...

Optionally, you are welcome to include other information you'd like to share around participation and representation in your activities. Please include any additional outcomes you would like to report on below:
