Candidate: JoalpeEdit

Hello :) I have been an active Wikimedian for many years and have served on many capacities in the Wikimedia movement, including as a member of the project grants committee (2016, rounds 1 and 2). I am currently the chair of the Brazilian affiliate Wiki Movimento Brasil and a member of the board of the Wikipedia & Education User Group. Besides my on-wiki experience, I am a university professor and have experience in assessing project funding requests for academic purposes. As a researcher, I have worked on how to build community engagement in decision making --I hold a PhD in Sociology, where I have investigated participatory models of managing public services, particularly public mass transit-- and this experience in thinking on institutions for empowered participatory governance may come handy in the context of the committee.
