June
editWe highly hoped with great enthusiasm to have a Covid pandemic trouble free 5th phase of our Wiki Loves Butterfly project and was eager to start the phase with a vigorous impetus. But, most unfortunately the 2nd wave of pandemic stuck with greater fierceness resulting in lockdown. Subsequently, all our team members at different provinces have to face another spell of pathetic deadlock situation and we had not the least chance of field work any where in this opening month of the project as inter-provinces and even inter district movements have stalled everywhere.
WLB,being a continuous project, we even carry on our field documentation and data collection activities diversely during the intermediate period between the termination of one phase to the beginning of the next phase. This is chiefly because we don't want to miss the prospective seasons for butterfly field period. This helps us greatly in our project carry through. Between phase IV and phase V, we took the opportunity of lockdown free movement to prospective fields and hotspots. In this June we have uploaded those documentations in Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata.
We have some online meetings this months among team members to keep our future plans ready, to motivate, to discuss, to have queries about the situations of their respective provinces and districts. Most of our team members have first dose of vaccination and the remaining few are waiting for their registered date to come. Everyone is eagerly waiting for his/her turn of the 2nd dose as some North-East provinces have already declared about the entry of outsider only after completion of the 2nd dose of vaccine.
We proposed to buy a high end camera body and super macro lens for gearing the quality of our photo documentation. Accordingly, we had placed the market quotation of those articles available then in the market. But due to severe pandemic catastrophe no required lens is available either in the open market, or with the manufacturers or in online market. Buying a high end camera body without requisite lens is truly meaningless. So we have decided to wait for those purchase till the market turns better. We are frequently communicating with the dealers.
This month we have two outreaches; two new members and Wiki contributors in the team from Assam namely Aman Chetry and Abhishek Dutta Choudhury who has started uploading in Wikimedia Commons. This is as a result of out regular interactions with butterfly enthusiasts through social media and local interactions in part of North East India.
We have not yet started creating and developing articles in Wikipedia. We generally start this business ever after one or two months of the beginning of the project phase.

editThis month too sustains the deadlock experience for most of our team members all over the country due to pandemic lockdown. In North-East provinces, team members almost could not move out of home front due to local containment zones and district-state wise lockdown. In West Bengal only, some relaxation of inter-province movement was allowed with production of vaccination certificates.
Two members of WLB team, Sandip Das and Amarttya Bagchi (a new outreach) from West Bengal took the opportunity and went to Belpahari, a butterfly hotspot in Jhargram district for 5 day field documentation. Other members were to move to another spot of West Bengal for documentation, but unfortunately failed to move on account of vaccination related issues.
This month we have one outreach, a new member and wikimedia contributor from West Bengal named Amarttya Bagchi, who has uploaded good many images in Wikimedia Commons.
We are still unable to make our purchase of our proposed camera body and super macro lens and other related accessories as all the specific macro lenses suitable for our butterfly field documentation are either discontinued or out of market and out of stock with manufacturers. This sorry figure of camera market and manufactures is due to the prolonged pandemic caused recession affecting production and business all over the world. We have been searching the entire city markets and all the distributors since June, when our project officially began for the required macro lens and still no news is there about lens availability of the manufactures. As we haven't got the specific lens, we have decided not to buy the camera body, since the question of camera body and lens compatibility is always there. Hence, we have decided to stop the whole purchase at present.

editThis month has marked some good progress in our fieldwork scenario as Covid Pandemic lockdown has started slackening a bit by bit in some parts of West Bengal and Northeast India. WLB team (who completed the 2nd dose of vaccination) has conducted 3 field documentation programme in West Bengal and Assam. The first one is led by Mahesh Baruah of Assam province at different butterfly spots of Bongaigaon district. The second field documentation is executed by Subhendu Khan at Barpeta district of Assam. Finally, the third one is conducted by Rahul Biswas and Arky Das (a new outreach) at diverse spots of Paschim Bardhaman district and Birbhum district of West Bengal.
We have one outreach, a new member and Wikimedia contributor from West Bengal namely Arky Das who has uploaded a good number of images in Wikimedia commons.
We have started our article writing on butterfly species and about 27 articles are are created and updated in BnWP.
To tell about our broader expansion of Wikimedia views and movements, this month the WLB team members have unanimously decided in monthly team meeting to co-organize a national level butterfly meet entitled Namdapha Butterfly Meet 2021 to be held in Miao, Arunachal Pradesh from 25-27 September 2021. Mahesh Baruah and Aman Chetry will represent WLB project team this time.
A remarkable development of this month is that after days and months of prolonged search and market survey all over, we have succeeded in accruing and purchasing our proposed Sigma APO MACRO 150mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM lens. Hence, we are going to purchase other proposed related items like camera body etc.

editThis month, a prospective butterfly activity month, we had multifarious plans of conducting vast fieldworks, organizing National level Butterfly Meet with other reputed organizations, co-organizing Big Butterfly Month event all over the country.
In field documentation sector, Subhendu Khan documented at Kokrajhar district and Bongaigaon district both in Assam province. Sarpita Bose moved far North-East and field documented in butterfly hotspots at Kohima district and Dimapur district in Nagaland. Mahesh Baruah and Abhishek Dutta Choudhury have documented Bongaigaon district in Assam.Sandip Das and Sourabh Biswas have documented and covered North Sikkim district.
Like previous year, we have co-organised and participated in North-East Butterfly Meet at Namdapha National Park. Furthermore, WLB team has successfully co-organised the countrywide celebration of Big Butterfly Month event.
We have one outreach this month, from North Sikkim district, a student and butterfly enthusiasts namely Sonam Vongchuk Rong who has started contributing images in Wikimedia commons. Article writing in BnWP and data uploading in Wikidata is going on as well.
Happy to announce that we have finally succeeded in purchasing all the camera related gears as proposed. As the 150mm Macro lens we got in of Canon mount (Nikon mount not available anywhere), so subsequently we have to shift to Canon camera body and other gears accordingly.
This month we have taken an initiative to gift our team members metal water bottles for using in fieldwork, having WLB Project logo printed on them. This is further more an attempt to minimize the useage of plastic water bottles in field. These SWAG materials were given to motivate them more in the project. The initiative has been successfully completed providing great joy to all the members.

October
editBy the month of October, almost all the members of WLB team have done with their 2nd dose of final Covid vaccination. Still movement to and entry in many areas and Reserve Forests and wildlife Sanctuaries in North-East India is still not permitted for outsiders due to zonal level containment operations to encounter the third wave of Covid 19 pandemic. Hence, we are looking for the prospective butterfly zones and hotspots in parts of West Bengal and near North East provinces where entry and movement is possible due to slackening of administrative regulations and also ensuring the full safety of the field-documenters.
This month, we have 3 field work programmes in different parts of West Bengal specially targeting the still not-documented protected areas of the province. Sourabh Biswas and Rajib Dey documented in the vast grassland areas of Nadia district. Sourabh Biswas further went to field in North 24 Parganas district while Rahul Biswas and Arky Das led documentation at Nadia district and Purba Bardhaman district.
Article writing in BnWP, photo uploading in Wikimedia commons as well as contribution in Wikidata has been done as well.

June
editBefore starting the report of the opening month (June) of our Wiki Loves Butterfly - Phase V 2nd half, we'd like to mention that during the interim period of 6month (completion of Wiki Loves Butterfly - Phase V 1st half in November 2021 to beginning of Wiki Loves Butterfly - Phase V 2nd half in June, 2022) we have thoroughly continued our project by contributed largely in Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata made new outreches, get many quality images, featured pictures and valued images promotions and so on and so forth. This we have done to keep a good and detailed record of available butterfly activities and diversity of West Bengal and North-East Indian providences during this interim period and also to keep our member in action and in active touch and collaboration.
Now, comes to June 2022 the opening month of the 2nd half; earlier monsoon, devastating flood and massive landslide at Sikkim, upper and lower Assam, Tripura and other North-East provinces as well as in the Northern part of West Bengal has marred and washed out all our field documentation planning and prospects. Transport and communication remained (still remains at some provinces) totally disrupted. Hence, the enthusiastic WLB team members are fored to document in Southern part of West Bengal and at their respective home areas and backyards.
The most interesting and significant of this month is a Photowalk has been organized with local team members and new participants at Chintamoni Kar Bird Sanctuary (CKBS) situated in South 24 Parganas. Some new outreachs and new wiki editors have been created.
