Throughout the history of Nigeria, women have suffered a great deal in the face of leadership and political struggle. the patriarchal system that runs through the country's pre-independent, independent and post independent political engagement has left the womenfolks in the dust from time immemorial. women are believed to be led and ruled and not to lead. the gender inequality rooted in politics in Nigeria is undoubtedly disastrous to both human and political development in the country. however, amidst the social, cultural and political shackles that has held women down in the progressive ladder of political endeavors and leadership, there a great number of women who broke the chains around them, took the path of political leadership and came out victorious. never, in the history of Nigeria has it been as easy tread for a woman who aspires or have interest in key political offices even though she has the needed qualities and qualification for that office. the fact that she is a woman makes her a loser even before she starts. thus, these women who have proven their worth, value and leadership prowess in political history of Nigeria should be celebrated, and immortalized through documentation. Wikidata is a very suitable platform to appreciate their efforts and encourage young women who have political aspiration.this two days event also aims at making these super women and their stories known to other women and girls in Nigeria , thereby exposing them to heroines and lionesses who have in the past, and currently paved way for them, to explore their political interest. if they could do it, then we can! this event is also targeted at eliminating gender inequality in the face of politics and leadership in Nigeria.
