Part 1: Project and impact edit

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

Members of the Network were informed in one of our meetings when WMF approved the proposal. We also discussed how it will be implemented. Those who are able to attend the physical sessions were urged to attend. Others were urged to attend online. One of the most effective approaches was the call for a meeting to intimate the member of Senior Citizens about the project, the theme of the project and what it entails. Another approach we used was to create short, short, videos and post in our WhatsApp group which they can learn with in their convenient time and then ask questions if any. We organized two physical meetings on the 1st of December 2023 and 27 of January 2024. Series of online meetings were also organized so as to carry everyone along especially members that are not in Abuja. In one of our online meetings The Wiki loves women team led by Florence Devouard and Afek conducted the training. Generally, the trainings included how to identify articles that needed to be improved on with reference to adding citations, images, grammatical errors, quotations, translations and categorization using the She said Link, we publicized the program using a number of platforms, such as social media, neighborhood forums, neighborhood gatherings, and also collaborated with groups that support Women activities.

Part 2: Learning edit

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: I will want to know whether the advertisement for this project being a gender project will attract more people to the Network

I will want to know haw many people are to start editing wikiquotes due to their participation in the project

I expect that this project will broaden the connection of our Network with other country wikipedians

I learnt that the advertisement for the project was impactful as it brought new people into the Network especially women. The new members were excited to learn about Wikipedia and willing to continue editing the wiki quote. They will also need support to keep learning. Also because one of the trainings was conducted online by leaders of Wiki Loves Women and had participation of people from outside Nigeria, It exposed both old and new members of the Network to the international audience and the possibility of working together with people from other countries.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

Negatively: We had challenges of IP block, Internet connectivity, some members forgot their password, and dashboard tracking other activities not related to the project. Also, the person that captured the in-person meetup had issues with his phone so we could not upload the images. Next time we will use multiple phones to capture the event. Positively: I did not expect the level of enthusiasm from senior citizens that participated. We are now thinking of how to sustain the tempo and keep organizing more forum for them to internalize the knowledge

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

The Network always review its past programmes in its routine online meetings. We have discussed the challenges and progress of the project I our meeting and the need to conduct refresher programmes to make sure members don’t forget what they learnt. As much as we can, we will continue to discuss wiki quote and encourage continuous editing by members.

Part 3: Metrics edit

7. Wikimedia Metrics results. (required)

In your application, you set some Wikimedia targets in numbers (Wikimedia metrics). In this section, you will describe the achieved results and provide links to the tools used.

8. Other Metrics results.

In your proposal, you could also set Other Metrics targets. Please describe the achieved results and provide links to the tools used if you set Other Metrics in your application.

Other Metrics name Metrics Description Target Result Tools and comments
Physical attendance Number of persons who attend the physical sessions of the project 30 35 outreach dashboard
100 over 100 articles was created in English Wikiquote and in other languages including Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba
400 Over 400 articles were edited in English Wikiquote and in other languages including Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba

9. Did you have any difficulties collecting data to measure your results? (required)

Yes

9.1. Please state what difficulties you had. How do you hope to overcome these challenges in the future? Do you have any recommendations for the Foundation to support you in addressing these challenges? (required)

When the project concluded and we wanted to write this report, we discovered that when the outreach dashboard was set up for the project, there was an error. It was set to rack English wiki quote but was not set up to track Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa Wiki quote. Rather it tracked Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa Wikipedia. Consequently, it tracked Wikipedia editing that is not part of this project and did not track some Wiki quote editing that was part of the project. For example, some of the Igbo Wikiquotes that were not tracked includes https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Os1X2fJczTB3083FpgnOwvA3h2Y5sqeAldk1PgmGQGc/edit?usp=sharing

We tried to see whether we can correct this error but we could not because the project has ended. We are sorry for this error. We therefore counted our edits manually.
