Introduction The changes that we are trying to implement include the production of audio content in four Nigerian local languages, audio-related content of oral language that will be used as encyclopedic content in Wiktionary and Wikipedia, trainings and workshops by local mentors and organizers to mentees, and meetings to discuss audio-related activities and areas where necessary to see the possible ways to produce audio. Frimbyhe beginning, a promotional campaign will be created to create awareness on audio, that will encourage the audience (Wikimedians) to participate as audio contributors. Wikimedians will be onboarded and encouraged to participate in local and national trainings, workshops, and contests to increase the production of audio files. In this project, a survey will be created to be distributed in the Wikimedia movement through diff, mailing list, and central notice board to collect data and information from Wikimedians on audio. The data and information will be gathered to produce a technical report that will help to solve problems on sound related areas, such as licensing, worth encyclopedic, audio rights advocacy, content usage, oral language dialectology, audio units in Wikimedia, and other related areas.

Introducing the Wikisound Audio Speaks Campaign; The Wikisound Audio Speaks Campaign is a non-profit campaign in the Wikimedia ecosystem focusing on the use of free knowledgable audio content sharing in the Wikimedia movement, with primary and secondary goals of creating sound content to document oral language and sound representations in various language communities (Wikis) as well as Wikimedia sister projects/multilingual projects. These can only be achieved by organizing workshops, mentorship programs, research projects, outreach initiatives, peer-to-peer learning events, competitions, and technical studio activities.

In 2023, the Wikisound Audio Speaks Campaign has successfully accomplished the designed projects goals that aim to produce audio files in the Wikimedia movement, a link is shared below.

Given the success of the Wikisound ASC's previous campaign, the WikiSound Audio Speaks Campaign 2023, we have nearly met all of our objectives, with a large number of users expressing enthusiasm and interest in taking part with the forward-thinking goal of contributing to The Free Sound Of All Human Knowledge and it's surrounding, We successfully onboarded new users, held our competition, and organized mentorship programs and meetings for Wikimedians.

This year, we wanted to focus on improving our approach and structure, which can only be accomplished by utilizing the Wikimedia tools that are currently available and incorporating them into the WikiSound ASC's strategic activities and approaches, as well as using them to create sound/oral language documentation in small languages across the Wikimedia movement.

Then, in order to make significant progress in the sound areas of The Sound of all human knowledge, audio-related technical skills, activities, and concepts related to the Wikisound Audio Speaks Campaign, we have advanced the concept from the manual method of recording, converting, uploading, and linking audio to the advanced method of using the tools available to document oral language and sound representation in small languages where the tools are not being used adequately.

Importantly in line with using Wikimedia tools, it was was proposed by The General Support Fund Committee at a meeting on 28 November, 2023, to make use of the available Wikimedia tools, and was agreed by the Wikisound ASC team. The WikiSound ASC outlined strategic plans for using the Lingua Libre and Spell4Wiki tools to advance oral language documentation and representation in small languages. In contrast to the Wikisound ASC's manual method in 2023, this will not be a duplication of efforts.

Approaches The Wikisound Audio Speaks Campaign will host a general promotional campaign about The Free Sound of All Human Knowledge in four small languages in Nigeria, as we did previously here [[1]]. The campaign was through social media media handles channels, Wikisound Mailing list, while the on wiki campaign was through central notice board. This time around the campaign will also be more of like the previous campaign only with some advancemt on social media. The campaign will focus on awareness that will lead to mentorship alliances, sound sharing, engagement and onboarding, and opportunities to contribute. It will also highlight the tools that will be used throughout the project, specifically Spell4Wiki and Lingua Libre.

This time, Wikisound ASC 2024 will use Lingua Libre and Spell4wiki as technical means of producing audio content and other sound representation, embracing the wonderful Wikimedia tools that will add credibility to the available Wikimedia tools, Using these tools this time will also lend credibility to WikiSound ASC and encourage the use of available sound Wikimedia tools in small languages for the progress of sound.

Furthermore, as part of the mega promotional campaign, online gatherings of interested Wikimedians and language communities will be scheduled to discuss the mentorship program, hold sound-a-thons, and provide local training to leverage the fundamental needs and skills required to achieve the mission of contributing audio-free knowledge-based content using Lingua Libre and Spell4Wiki tools. The Wikisound ASC 2024 will launch a massive general promotional campaign to raise awareness about Sound, WikiSound ASC, and sound Wikimedia tools, followed by meet-ups, trainings, a sound-a-thon, workshops, contests, and contribution recognition.

In terms of tools, Lingua Libre and Spell4Wiki are sets of mobile phone/computer-designed websites that allow users to record audio content and upload it to various Wikimedia sister projects in different languages. While Spell for Wiki focuses on multilingual projects like Wikitionaries, Lingua Libre specializes in providing audio files and sound representation for Wikipedia projects and others. Both tools are designed for sound production and development in Wikimedia for languages, and are documented on GitHub and other Wikimedia-related pages.

The Wikisound ASC's implemented plans have a focus area for this year's strategic activities, focusing on word pronunciation in Wiktionary and article pronunciation in Wikipedia, as well as other sound representations such as music.

Challenges One of the major issues in the Wikimedia movement is the absence of sound in words and articles, as words are not adequately understood, whereas pronunciation is critical for those seeking to expand their knowledge of a specific language. It is best to learn from a native speaker who can provide accurate guidance on how certain sounds are pronounced in their language, especially for those of us who add sound to articles. Wikipedia feel uneasy not knowing whether native words are accurately conceived by knowledge seekers. We frequently face difficulties in making our articles accessible to others and assisting them in gaining knowledge on an accurate pronunciation basis when audio is completely unavailable without listening to it. However, we can address this issue by including audio files for words in Wikitionaries and articles in Wikipedias that provide accurate pronunciations from native speakers of the language. This will assist those seeking knowledge in better understanding the proper pronunciation of words in their native tongue. The Wikisound Audio Speaks Campaign will use Lingua Libre and Spell4Wiki tools as a conceptual method for assigning desired learnings to Wikimedians from various languages and communities.

It is well known that Wikimedians and communities are familiar with the concept of contributing to free knowledge through writing and photography works by sparing their time to share their knowledge freely, but looking at sound from a contribution perspective is different, with minimal Wikimedians contributing with sound that will help to bridge the gap of all the free sound presentations recordings, which are expected to be from newly and registered Wikimedians. They would be trained to overcome a significant challenge that many users face when attempting to contribute to Wikimedia Sister projects/multilingual projects with audio files and sound presentations. This is especially important for Wikimedians who want to explore sound contributions, as learning is essential for mastering the art of contributing and incorporating audio files into different words and articles using Lingua Libre and Spell4wiki. The Wiki Sound Audio campaign was launched to help various communities contribute and create audio file representations in their native language Wikis. To accomplish this, each language community will be assigned training to assist onboarded interested Wikimedians (newly/registered) in acquiring skills, experience, and technicality on sound from different communities by attending different training sessions tailored to their needs.

Approaches or strategies to achieve these changes

To address the aforementioned challenges, we intend to carry out the project in accordance with the initial plan stated in the WikiSound Audio Speaks Campaign project page on meta, as well as the Strategic Plan in the WikiSound Audio Speaks Campaign Page, which will be discussed further below.

The first move is to start by making a general promotional campaign and awareness across all Wikimedia Projects about the WikiSound Audio Speaks Campaign and the importance of audio files in the Wikimedia Movement at large, it is through this campaign editors will show interest in participating, we would then start having met up with local communities online to fish out the needs required in each community.

Furthering the progress work, we have acquired what was required in all communities; however, because needs vary between communities, we would then proceed to implement workshops, training, and peer-to-peer learning to impart audio skills and techniques to participants based on our and their needs in order to achieve an impactful result. The training and workshops will be held on a regular basis, twice for each of the four communities; other training will be local, while others will be more general.

As we already have local mentors since 2023 which part of the WikiSound audio Speaks Campaign team, they will undoubtedly serve as the foundation for progressing with the activities. It is also planned that two mentors/local Language Organizers from each Wikimedia Community who are native speakers of that language will volunteer to help couching editors, enroll audio editors, and engage existing editors in their community to fully participate. It is planned to hold a national and local contest on audio files, similar to how Wiki Loves Africa contributes with a large number of photos and images. We believe that audio files will outnumber images by 2030. Local mentors are key factors that understand oral language pronunciation, dialectology, and language literature.

Some of the plans are summarized below. Create international awareness across all Wikimedia projects. international Meet-ups on Audio files. Mentoring Wikimedians and editors about audio file activities. Organizing contests (national and local) to encourage.

Planned Activities The Wikisound Audio Speaks camping will host a promotional campaign on sound contribution to educate the audience (Wikimedians) on the importance of contributing with sound. Following the campaign, various pieces of training and workshops will be held to teach wikimedians about sound in the Wikimedia movement, how to contribute, and how to make encyclopedic use of audio.

A contest will be held to recognize their contribution and to encourage them to continue contributing with sound. Meetings will be scheduled to discuss audio-related activities with mentors and meentess, as well as to collect sound data and information. We will create a survey form to collect data and information from the entire Wikimedia audio movement, and we will use the survey to create a technical report that will be shared in diff to assist in the resolution of audio contribution issues.

In the Wikimedia movement, there is no specific campaign focusing attentively on sound and audio activities, this campaign Is designed to pay adequate attention to audio-related activities, as far as this campaign is concerned at the end of projects we wanted to see Wikimedians acquiring technical skills on how to contribute with audio and to bridge the gap of audio files in the Wikimedia movement by producing audio contents. Also, we wanted to learn if Wikimedians know much about laid-down rules and guidelines protecting licenses, upload method, and method of using audio worth encyclopedic, moreover to learn from Wikimedians how they understand the license, advocacy, audio encyclopedic, audio Wikimedia guidelines by conducting a survey to collect data and information to help us produce a technical report for that matter. We would also learn focus areas, pages, and places where audio and sound representations are vita, areas where is no sound, areas and pages where sound needs improvement. Also to learn the knowing of users about sound technical and wikimedia technicalities on sound, to see what to improve for User Experience and what to bring new to develop their skills.
