1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Universal Wikimedia Fan Club(UWFC) carried out a short survey to the general public to learn about the awareness of people about Wikimedia and its projects. Analysis of the survey calls for the need for a project of this kind to be executed. Here is the link to the survey and its analysis: https://docs.google.com/document/d/10gpYmvzIJxsg4ZEY76JuWLlYOCOOC1U3mnBQQ8APXn0/edit

This project seeks to:

1. Create awareness about Wikipedia and its sister projects.
2. Guide participants to install Wikipedia App on their smartphones and be assisted to search for information from it.
3. Introduce Wikidata to club members
4. Recruit new editors for the various Wikimedia projects
5. Increase skills for existing editors.
6. Train new editors to contribute to Wikidata
7. Create or improve Wikidata items.
2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

Meetups: We will use this approach to discuss Wikimedia and its projects since it is great for such discussions and deliberations. Participants will be assisted to install the Wikipedia App on their smartphones and guided to search for information from it.

Workshops/Training: This approach or strategy allow new users to gain new knowledge and also rekindle what they already know, that is, they refresh their minds on what they already learned. It is an effective approach since we will have in attendance experienced editors and those that are fairly new. Ideas are shared among colleagues during workshops and in this way, participants would not only gain new knowledge but also socialize and get to know more about their co-wikimedians.

Editathon: Editathons are usually the quickest approach to use if one wants to complete a task early. It is very participatory and engages participants more. Participants will be enthused to work more as they see their co-participants doing the same. Again, this approach will allow participants to communicate among themselves and finally addresses issues among themselves that relate to the event.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

We will have an online session to welcome everyone to the Fan Club since this is the first time we are meeting. This is to cater for those who are not within the place where the event will be taking place. Zoom or google meet link will be shared publicly for the public for interested people to join. We will do an intensive promotion campaign to get more new people to volunteer for the Fan Club.

Meetups will be organized where participants will be introduced to Wikimedia Foundation and its projects. This will create room for participants to socialize, connect and network among themselves.

We will have a series of 3 training/workshop sessions where participants will be introduced to Wikidata to build their skills since Majority of the participants are first-timers in the project.

Participants who are without user accounts will be assisted to create themselves.

Participants will be assisted to install the Wikipedia applications on their smartphones and thought how to access information from it since the feedback from the survey indicates some respondents are unaware of such an App.

This training will be held on Saturdays within the month of October 2022.
