The international women day is celebrated on each of the 8th of March every year. this year a research on wiki shows that women are highly underrepresented in the entire movement, Africa, and Nigeria to that extent. the statistics shows 1. only 19% of all biographies on wikipedia are about women. 2. only 13% wikipedia editors are identify as women. 3. only 23% of all wikimedia content related to the sub-Saharan Africa is about women. 4. only 19% of wikimedia affiliate groups in sub-Saharan africa are led by women. These clearly shows that Wikipedia need women.

These are the challenges the movement is facing and when comes down to our community, in Hausa Community we have lesss than 5% of women representative as editors and also lesser as group/affliate led.

The approches to these challenges we are to undertake are as follows,

1. we are to organised one in person workshop and also one online workshop to educate women more focusing on Kaduna state university student and other women in the community about the importance of them being in the movement and how valuable their presence matters to the movement.

2. the project will organised 2 transalation edithathon for the women to be able to translate/create 50 articles on women in sport, women athletes and international women right activities (women) and polishing 150 women articles. In other to help provide more women articles, biographies in Wikipedia. Also upload/link 150 photos of women to wiki Commons.

3. We plan to retain half of the participants of the project (15 women) as a means of follow up and getting back to them.

We will be careful getting back to them vias our communication channels to engaged them with an activity or task to be able to retain them in movement.

2. 1 online and 1 in person awareness workshop that will educate the participants (women) about the importance of their representation in the movement and the role they can play to change this narratives.

3. As we mentioned earlier this project is planning to retain half of its participants to the movement, we want to glue them to the community. A survey have been carried out and we found out that the reason why in most project almost 90% of the participants left after the project is. Most of them doesn't to what to do or what's their next step after the project. They find it difficult navigating through the Wikipedia to find what to contribute.

Looking at these response, we intent to come up with an organised plan that will serve as community engagement and a means of follow up to the participants. After the project.

We will engage the participants for 6,months providing them with what to do on wiki and off wiki regarding the movement. This entails finding articles that need polishing, or reference or a photo, for them and also motivated them to edit and find those things to those particular articles. This will serve as an activity or task given to them so as to keep them in the movement and a means of follow up.

This will be done through the WhatsApp group we have already for this project, with the collaboration of the Hausa community leadership and the administrators of Hausa Wikipedia.

We will engage them for at least 6 months, from that time we believe we can be able to retain more than half of the participants as by that time, they're are well familiar and knows how to navigate in Wikipedia and in the movement and knows already what to do. And also it's expected by that time they have build connection and knows where to go in terms of their needs in the movement.

In Summary, we will be having, 1. 2 in-person events for the translation and creation of 50 women articles and polishing 150 women articles. And also upload/link 150 women photos to wiki Commons.

2. We will have 2 workshops for creating awareness to women, 1 in person and 1 online. That's 2 events.

3 we will also engage the participants for 6 months providing task activities for them to be doing on wiki to serve as means of retaining them and also a means of follow up to them.

During the breaks at the event we celebrated women in our let's connect group by giving them gifts and warm messages. This is where the discussion of the idea start, the statistics of the engagement of the women comes around then we collectively decided to do something which transformed to this grant in other to get women more involved and engaged them and filled in the gap to the best we can starting from our community. Among our let's connect participants are students from Kaduna state University and the community in general so we make plans to invite women from the university through their colleagues and engaged them, and also the rest of the women in our community from different background and professions.

The leaders and administrator of Hausa Wikipedia are also there present, we engaged them in the discussion and further extend the topic to the Hausa community general WhatsApp group for more insight from the community.
