- R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.
- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
The major aim of the project is to foster collaboration between the technical community in Osun State and the Wikimedia Technical community by introducing them to the global 2023 Wikimedia Hackathon. Our main objectives include engaging developers within Osun State, inviting community members to participate in the technical aspects of the Wikimedia Movement, and recruiting new editors to join the Hackathon.
To achieve our goals, we plan to host a local pre-hackathon workshop and invite at least 5 developers from Osun Tech Community, this is a tech community based in Osun State. This will allow us to introduce participants to various Wikimedia tools and train them on different Wikidata tools such as Quickstatements and 'Mix n Match'. By participating in the Hackathon, community members will have the opportunity to contribute to the global Wikimedia Movement and connect with other like-minded individuals. We believe that this project will not only benefit the technical community in Osun State but also the wider Wikimedia community by bringing in new talent and perspectives.
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
By bringing this opportunity to the technical community, we believe that they will be more committed to the Wikimedia project and its goals. The project will provide a platform for them to connect with other like-minded individuals and contribute to the global knowledge. This will not only help to bridge the gap between the technical community and the Wikimedia Technical community but also create a stronger sense of community within Osun State.
- 3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
We will organize two (2) in-person events to keep in touch with all participants. These events will consist of training on how to use Wikimedia tools and on different Wikidata tools such as Quickstatements and 'Mix n Match' , and Edit-a-thon for new editors. There will be hands-on keyboard training where the new editors will be given the avenue to practice what they have learnt. We will also create an outreach dashboard where we will monitor participants’ activities, and a WhatsApp group will be created where participants will be mentored after the events.
