Over quite a long time, gender gap has been my serious concern when it comes to comparing the number of female contributors volunteering across Wikimedia projects with their male counterparts. The case is even more serious when one look at the available active contributors from Nigeria more especially the northern part to be specific which is the region where I come from. From what I discovered was that this huge gender gap difference between male contributors and female volunteers across Wikimedia projects was due to the fact that there was lack of women inclusion during organizing and recruiting of new volunteers which caused the women participation to be very little or limited. While another key factor is in some parts not all female trainees feel so relaxed to be train by male organizers and some could have been feeling very shy to be open to ask questions especially when they found out their number was quite a few among other male trainees which in the end result to them leaving the training hall without having the chance to learn the necessary skills since the basic idea here is that projects led by men will encouraged more men participation and hinders women on the other side. Consequently, this might be one of the reasons why females are underrepresented on Wikipedia by looking at the contents availability when compared to those created about men since based on a common sense, men would normally prefer to write more and more about men while women would also love to contribute contents about women. So, looking at the case in northern Nigeria, this project aims to promote women inclusion and participation across Wikimedia projects just I did in my past and also the first project to addressed similar concern in the region while keeping the believe that women participation is essential and would be of great support in creating contents promoting women which would help to balance both volunteers and contents gender-gap across Wikimedia projects.

I planned to carry out a two days awareness campaigns amongst women to promote Wikimedia projects and let them know about the project goals and activities. Following that, I will lead the way to organize an editathon to train them on how to contribute contents on any of these four Wikimedia projects which I want to introduce them to including; Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wiktionary and Wikimedia Commons. The activities would go on like this:

1. Awareness: the first two (2) days will be for the awareness campaign
2. Editathon/Training: on the the first workshop day, the participants would be introduce to Wikipedia and Wikidata. On the second training day, the participants will be introduce to Wiktionary and Wikimedia Commons. While in the mid of the project another session will be organize to retrain the participants to highlight and correct all possible errors and mistakes observe from the contents which the participants made during the time they were contributing.
