This Wikimedia awareness campaign is a strategic initiative aimed at fostering inclusivity and cultural diversity within the Wikimedia projects. Ekpoma, situated in the heart of Esan West Local Government Area, is a vibrant community with higher institutions, rich in history, language, and cultural heritage. However, the invaluable knowledge embedded in the unique language spoken by minority communities in this region remains largely undocumented and underrepresented on digital platforms. Recognizing the significance of linguistic diversity as a cornerstone of cultural identity, this campaign seeks to address the underrepresentation of minority language speakers within the Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia. The initiative places a special emphasis on engaging and recruiting individuals from minority linguistic groups in Esan West LGA to actively contribute to the documentation and preservation of their people's history, language, and culture.

The primary goal is to empower community members to become proactive participants in the global knowledge-sharing network facilitated by Wikimedia projects. By encouraging the creation of content in their native languages, we aim to amplify the voices of minority language speakers, ensuring that their unique perspectives, traditions, and stories are accurately represented on a global scale.

This campaign will involve a series of targeted awareness programs, workshops, and training sessions tailored to the linguistic and cultural context of Esan. The objective is to build a community of skilled contributors who can seamlessly integrate into the Wikimedia projects, ensuring sustained engagement and the continuous production of high-quality content in minority languages. Through this initiative, we hope to create a more inclusive digital space that reflects the rich tapestry of linguistic diversity present in Esan West Local Government Area. By actively involving minority language speakers in the documentation and preservation of their heritage, the campaign aspires to contribute to the broader goals of Wikimedia in promoting knowledge equity, cultural representation, and the democratization of information. Through the collective efforts of the Esan community, this campaign seeks to make a lasting impact on the global accessibility of diverse knowledge, fostering a more inclusive and representative digital archive for generations to come.
